J.J. Abrams will no doubt spend the bulk of 2014 working on "Star Wars: Episode VII," which is set for a summer 2015 release. But according to one of the stars of Abrams's other sci-fi franchise, the director could be pulling double intergalactic duty.
Buzzhub reports that at an appearance at the Galway Film Fleadh last week, Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in Abrams's rebooted "Star Trek" films, told fans that the director is planning on returning to the Enterprise for its next outing -- and that the sequel would shoot sometime in 2014.
"'Star Trek 3' should be filming, I suppose, next year," he said. "It's going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That's the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet."
Quinto's last statement is the one to note -- after all, plans are nice, but Abrams already has a pretty full plate with "Episode VII" on the horizon, and Buzzhub's report is pretty light on specific details from the actor. The idea of Abrams writing and shooting "Episode VII," in addition to putting in untold amounts of time on pre- and post-production, then turning around and also giving the same attention to "Trek," all in the span of a year, seems a bit far-fetched.
Then again, Vulcans can't lie, so maybe we can trust Quinto's word on this one. Either way, expect summer 2015 to be an epic one for moviegoers.
