Rand Paul to Filibuster Over Big Sis Arms Build-Up?

Big Sis continues to stonewall lawmakers on ammo buys

Senator Rand Paul’s successful effort to get answers concerning the Obama administration’s drone strike program by staging a dramatic marathon filibuster earlier this month should be the template for a similar attempt to force the DHS into divulging the reasons behind its domestic arms build-up.

During his 13 hour filibuster on March 6, the Kentucky Senator mentioned the unprecedented ammo purchases, expressing alarm at how Americans were being treated as terrorists for owning guns while the government was simultaneously stockpiling bullets at breakneck speed.

WIth the federal agency having committed to purchasing around 2 billion bullets over the course of the last year, concerns that Big Sis is preparing for civil unrest have spread like wildfire as Americans fear a repeat of scenes already witnessed in places like Greece and Cyprus in the aftermath of an economic collapse.

Despite over a dozen members of Congress demanding an explanation as to why the agency has purchased enough ammunition to wage a 20 year-plus war, answers have not been forthcoming, with the only response arriving in the form of a glib statement made by a DHS official, Peggy Dixon, who blithely claimed that the bullets were bought in bulk to save money and that they were for training purposes only.

However, most of the bullets are hollow point rounds and therefore more expensive than standard firing range bullets – making them unsuitable for training purposes. As former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”

Numerous lawmakers are now following Forbes Magazine’s call to turn the issue into a “national conversation”.

- Kansas Congressman Timothy Huelscamp said earlier this week that threats should be made to withdraw funding from the DHS if it didn’t explain why it was purchasing so many bullets, remarking, “They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that.”

- New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance said last Friday that, “Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred,” signaling his intention to get answers.

- Californian Congressman Doug LaMalfa and 14 of his House colleagues have written a letter to the Department of Homeland Security asking if the purchases are, “being conducted in a manner that strategically denies the American people access to ammunition.”

While the DHS buys up huge amounts of ammunition, contributing to nationwide shortages, police departments have been forced to barter amongst each other in a desperate scramble to meet their needs.

Despite numerous members of Congress making inquiries as to the reason behind the bullet buys, the mainstream and leftist media have attempted to ridicule the entire issue as a conspiracy theory, with Atlantic Wire even suggesting that the story had its origins in a debunked email, a report that completely failed to even mention the admitted fact that the DHS had purchased around 2 billion bullets.

Given that the DHS obviously thinks it can ignore sitting members of Congress, Infowars calls on Rand Paul to stage another filibuster or at least ask some hard questions and demand answers about why the agency is apparently trying to hide what seems to many observers to represent a domestic arms build-up in preparation for civil unrest.
