Strip Club Feminism: Does Exotic Dancing Empower Women?

Posted: 12/07/2012 4:51 pm EST  |  Updated: 12/07/2012 5:37 pm EST

Former exotic dancer Sheila Hagemen, author of "Stripping Down: A Memoir" joined HuffPost Live Friday to discuss whether or not strip clubs empower women, and whether exotic dancing can be considered a feminist occupation.

"It's not all horrible and bad," Hageman told host Marc Lamont Hill, "But, you are surrounding yourself with drugs and pimps so, you are putting yourself into a world that can be damaging."

Joining Hageman were exotic dancer Quiana Colbert, New York gentleman's club owner Steve Dick, and adult film star and former dancer Tasha Reign.

Women have been stripping, dancing, prostituting, etc. since the beggining of time. Yet some how with all the power we supposedly have over men and the world we live in we are some how not the ones running the show. If all it took for women to be empowered is to feel sexy and turn on a bunch males we wouldn't still be sitting in the back seat waiting for true social justice, or at the very least a sirious dip in the numbers of rapes, murders, etc.
