The historical-critical approach to Atlantis

WWW

Atlantis was searched at many places: On the volcano island of Santorini, near Gibraltar in Spain, in the city of Troy, etc. - but why not looking there, where Plato himself has been?!

Such as the city of Syracuse, a city on an island in the west ...

Plato visited Syracuse three times, in order to realize his political ideas there (not in Athens!). Is it possible that certain aspects of the Atlantis account reflect Plato's experiences in Syracuse? Concerning geography, construction works and political circumstances?

This ideas was thoroughly analyzed by Gunnar Rudberg, but his analysis did not reach public awareness, because it was published in Swedish, only. Now, Rudberg's scientific analysis is translated for the first time, and everybody can read it.

Gunnar Rudberg: Atlantis and Syracuse - Did Plato's experiences in Sicily inspire the legend?

I am looking forward to your opinions on this idea ...

Syracuse: not in the Atlantis Ocean, nor is it big enough to fit Plato's dimensions in Timaeus or Critias.

You are fully right.
But you missed the point.
Maybe Plato invented Atlantis according to the model Syracuse? :-)
It is worth to spend 5 minutes on this thought.

Of course, if Plato invented Atlantis based on the model of Syracuse, there would be no point in searching for anything physical any longer, now would there be? In fact, since conclusive evidence might never be found to prove such a thing, it might just as well be anyplace at that time with certain superficial similarities.

Rudberg's idea is interesting, also because his idea contradicts the today prevailing invention hypotheses. If - if Atlantis was an invention, Rudberg's theory is much more convincing, imho. Furthermore, Rudberg gives an overview over Atlantis research pro and contra, and we see: All ideas were there, already 100 years ago. Rudberg is very modern, you would not belive it ... if you ever want to read an invention hypothesis, I recommend Rudberg.

Well. I thought that Syracuse was a Dorian Colony not Pelasgian
The Pelasgians  have Atlantis as their forerunners
But I doubt about the Dorians(= Heraclids.)did

Besides Cathage( Bursa.) and Egypt not to forget Tyrus
had twin harbours too one in a Bay-cresent,  the other dug from the Lagoon.
