'A Somber Reading of the Names of the Dead'

From The New York Times:

Though they were not to speak, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York, Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani created a small stir when they arrived shortly before the ceremony was to begin. They stopped together about 10 yards from the platform where 200 readers, reciting the names of the dead, were to stand at lecterns.

Angela Pesce, who wore her son Danny Pesce’s face and name on her T-shirt, said she approved of Mr. Bloomberg’s decision to exclude the politicians from the ceremony program.

9/11 Video Accounts Of The Terrorist Attacks: Remembering The Events Of September 11

From HuffPost Politics:

Re-watching footage from 9/11, regardless of the anniversary, is undoubtedly eerie, but for some, remembering that terrible day is often necessary in order to pay tribute to those who lost their lives.

For others, especially a generation growing up in the post-9/11 world, watching the footage helps form at least a partial understanding of the attacks.

Technology was able to preserve the memory of the events, for better or worse. Now, the clips that were once only considered a dramatic memory of a tragic day have become a part of history.

'The Readings We Choose To Commemorate 9/11 Each Year'

Mayor Michael Bloomberg on HuffPost Books:

One year after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, our city faced a daunting challenge: hosting commemoration that was worthy of the memories of those who perished and that offered consolation to family members still mourning the loss of their loved ones. The world would be watching, as so many looked to New York City to remember and reflect on a day that brought unspeakable sadness but also unsurpassed heroics.

September 11, 2001 Anniversary: Obama Marks 11 Years Since Attacks

09/11/12 05:04 AM ET AP

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will spend Tuesday marking the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

He and first lady Michelle Obama will gather with White House staff on the South Lawn to observe a moment of silence. That will take place about the time of the first attack, when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.

The president is then scheduled to attend a memorial ceremony at the Pentagon.

In the afternoon, Obama plans to visit Walter Reed medical center in nearby Bethesda, Md., where he'll spend time with wounded veterans and their families.

I find it nothing short of odious that Dick Cheney, the Count Voldemort of our era, has seen fit to criticize the president on the anniversary of the twin towers attack when Cheney and Bush ignored many specific warnings about imminent attacks by Al Qaeda cells within our country. Richard Clarke wrote a book about it after he was demoted by the Bush administration, and after the sitting Attorney General, John Ashcroft told him he didn't want to hear it any more when Clarke tried to get him to pay attention to the warnings. Condi Rice also ignored Clarke. In "Against All Enemies" Clarke outlines just how worried President Clinton was about Bin Laden and how Bush and his administration completely dismissed those warnings.

Now, we get abuse from Cheney? Takes guts, I will give him that, but not the kind of guts that our fighting men and women have who actually had to fight the wars.

Shame on Cheney.

9/11 Reflections: 'Who You Are Can Disappear In A Moment'

Posted: 09/11/2012 8:00 am Updated: 09/11/2012 8:09 am

On 9/11/01, then-Goldman Sachs career coach Roy Cohen was in the South Tower of the World Trade Center when the plane hit it... and he ran outside into complete chaos. In this AOL video, the entrepreneur and author (“The Wall Street Professional’s Survival Guide”) recounts his "horrific, ugly and life-changing" experience of eleven years ago and discusses how his life -- and his attitude toward fear -- have been transformed.

Today brings back terrible memories not just of 9/11 but the entire nightmare that was the Bush administration. He kept us "safe" after terrorists tried to destroy us and the report, "Bin Laden determined to strike America using air planes" was swept under the rug by Bush's security advisor Condi Rice. Then, we suffered a string of additional nightmares as the Keystone Cops known as "The Bush Administration" used the occasion to profiteer, open wars of "opportunity," give contracts to Halliburton and other friends of the Texas administration, gut our treasury, and ignore abuses on our own shores which then ended with the economic collapse of 2008.

"Shock and Awe" shocked America and almost destroyed us and was an illegal war with so many horrors along with the merchandising of fear. The real shock and awe is that Bush/Cheney and team are not being tried for war crimes. Bush has fallen off the radar, and he was well advised to vanish.
