CORPUS CHRISTI - New information has been released on the goat mutilations out at the CCISD agriculture barn at Cabaniss Field. Necropsy results indicate the animals were tortured to death, and police think the same group is responsible for all three attacks at the facility in recent months.

The vet's findings corroborate one policeman's theory that the suspects gained access to the barn through the gate and perhaps took a dog in with them to make the attacks. Veterinarian Sam Williams said the amount of pain inflicted on the mutilated goats is sad.

The brutality even surprised police.

"By the mere photos and injuries to the animals, it's disturbing," he said.

On the outside, the goats showed only animal bite marks, but on the inside - severe bleeding and swelling, ribs broken into several pieces, damaged lungs, abdominal organs.

"The deadly trauma was probably caused by a stick or blunt weapon, the animals might have been kicked, crushed or sat on," Williams said.

Dr. Williams calls it an act of human malice, and police said these attackers show a pattern.

"It's probably some young people that have broken in there and abused these animals," he said. "It's the mentality of being a vandal out to destroy property and things out there."

Animal torture is a state jail felony. If the suspects are found guilty of it, they could face up to two years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Police don't have a suspect just yet, but the district feels their security measures will stop whoever did this. An 8-foot fence has been put up around the ag barn. They've also cleared away the thick brush nearby. This outer fence has been alarmed and the cameras are up and running.
