Hi Adam,
That old 'evidence' about the vitreous basalt being found around the Mid Atlantic Ridge was debunked long ago as that article shows.

...yet it's still claimed as evidence for Atlantis in many subsequent Atlantis books.

Do you think Atlantis is real Adam?

Hi Mark, I suppose the best way to put it would be that I don't 'not' believe in it. I suppose I am looking for proof and want to believe like most others here. I'm actually of the opinion that the story has to be older than some give it credit for there to be so little trace of it. I'm also a bit bothered that some Atlantis researchers take some aspects of Plato's story (i.e. a circular city and simply toss away others.

In order for something to be called Atlantis it had to:

1. have a flat rectangular plain of giant dimensions
2. supported large population centers, probably not a small island like Spartel as some suggest.
3. Have the remains of a 5 1/2 mile canal, concentric circles, circular city, all that.
4. Been above water sometime during the last twenty thousand years.

We can probably forget about finding any ruins since the eastern to mid Atlantic have undersea volcanoes and are erupting all the time.

It would also have had to have 'sunk,' a lot of Atlantis researchers keep forgetting that. Either we accept Plato altogether or it is not Atlantis.

..Yeah, I tend to agree Adam,
You have to accept the whole story, can't pick and choose what parts you like.

Hello Mate,

Thanks for sharing information on this interesting subject!

After I read a book written by Immanuel Velikovsky in 1950 called "Worlds in Collision" I think Atlantis may not be on this planet.

Hi walt

I have not read that book but I have heard of it since it is very famous. I dont understand how Atlantis could be on another planet, you are going to have to enlighten me on that one.
