The Oldest -printed- name for the present, Atlantic Ocean
strangely is, GERMAN Ocean or even Spanish Sea(1500 ad.)
the Name ´Oceanus Atlanticum´was handwritten(Ptolemy-Strabo)

But by the Time Printing was invented ( dd 1480 )
Ortelius, Mercartor, BLAUE, used Not the toponym Atlantic-Ocean, but, the´modern´name Spanish Sea.Mare Hispognola

willfully changed the Maps of Europe
By inserting false topographical names into the existing pattern
One of which was the Name `Atlantic Ocean ´

Even the Baltic Sea was re/named after the Sinus Persicus
which was alternatively, also known as the Sea of HAVILA or AB(h)ALITES
from which mysterious ways, was derived the name Baltic(for Abalites-Sinus.,.)

This names changing game/scheme,  went even so far that some
Scholars thought that there ever was a`HERACLES in the BALTIC´.

Heracles could never have passed though the Rhone-valley in South-France,
his presence, doesn´t even belong to France in Europe
BECAUSE when Heracles supposedly roamed France, supposedly around 1350 bc.
during his 12 Labours, the Romans didn´t exist yet in Italy
neither was that country known as Italy.
As you remember the Romans only entered Italy AFTER Hercales went there.
So How could Heracles have lived contemporary with Romans in italy
Romans arrived in Rome about 753 bc

Yet Heracles passed that place on his
 way back to Greece and Mycene
Heracles lived about 1350 bc Etruscans arrived much later, in 900 bc.

The CLUE is that Aeneas boarded Italy around a very late date 860 not 1360 bc.
Whilst the ( False) Date of the Troyan-War is 1200 bc or 1193 bc

OCEAN in ancient Greek terminology, simply means a common iver floating past a cubntery named The Mid-World hence (Mid-)World-River(Not circllng the GLOBE!)
means a Sea/brance or Sea /Bay like the Bay of California !

The WHOLE name for OCEAN was SEA that Encompassed the Middle World=Oikumenos
The original Atlantic Epithet was only about a small Part washing Atlantis´s shores which now is named Aden hence Gulf of Aden.

But we in our cultural ignoreance applied The (`True `Ocean/Part), of
PLATO´s notion of just a SMALL part of THE Ocean beiing named Altantic,
to the WHOLE ( or veritable/Part ')of the Ocean and so that meaning got lost !
and the doubtfull name Ocean got separated from it´+s original Meaning OKEANOS
and started it´s own life

WHY would Eratosthenes promote such a blatant Lie would you ask I guess

Because he wanted to give the WEST Punicians who were
fighting a politcal battle with the Romans over the
Rightfull posession of SPAIN, a mythical Story to bluff the Romans

But things got out of hand
and now WE are stuck with a falsified name
of Atlantis Ocean for German or Spanish Sea.
in, American colonial times named "Mare-Oceanum" but NO "Atlantic"-prefix.

In addition to naming the Spanish Sea`The Atlantic`
IreLand and England were referred to as ''ancient Troy"
and Holland was Thought to be 'Ancient Atlantis'.

But maybe you as a conventional  Atlantis Buff
were not familiar with the above alternative solution
to the Atlantis Location problem.

CONCLUSIUON

Atlantic Ocean referred to the SEA BRANCE( Brazil )
paralell to the LAND of AD) Today HEDJAZ.'
SINUS/Arabicus is the Latin name for the Greek
OKEANOS or Mid/Earth Sea ( Mid/Earth is Araby.')
