RKBA: Romney is coming for your guns

by KVoimakas for Right to Keep and Bear Arms

Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme or somewhere in between, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections.  We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion.

As always, if you're interested in joining RKBA, message KVoimakas.

I found a rather interesting article posted up at GMD. I figured I should share it. I'm only allowed three paragraphs right? Oh, which ones to choose...I suggest clicking through and reading the whole thing. The hypocrisy of the NRA is mind boggling. I did include the handout at the very end. I don't think that counts as a paragraph for copyright purposes.

During his 2002 gubernatorial campaign, Romney had been a supporter of the federal assault weapons ban, and had also said he believed "in the rights of those who hunt to responsibly own and use firearms." On July 1, 2004, Romney signed a permanent state ban on assault weapons, saying at the signing ceremony for the new law, "Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people." The law extended a temporary measure that had been in effect since 1998 and covered weapons such as the AK-47, Uzi, and MAC-10. The same law also modified some other aspects of general firearms licensing regulations.

So, in other words, in Mitt's world, guns are only for hunting and those that look scary enough should be banned because you're too irresponsible to be trusted with them.

Also, as governor of Massachusetts, Romney substantially increased hunting licensing fees as well as the fees required to obtain a Massacusetts FID, the card that in that state you have to have to possess any firearm at all: the card that registers you with the government as a person that owns a gun.

    Romneyflier

For those of you who are going "Why in the HELL is the NRA (that conservative bastion of second amendment rights) endorsing ROMNEY of all people?" I suggest you look at the bolded word in that statement. Yes, Democrats own guns. Yes, certain Democrats running for office are endorsed by the NRA. But when it comes down to a Democrat (a scary, BLACK MAN Democrat), well hell, do you think they'd endorse the guy who actually pushed and signed more restrictive gun laws? OF COURSE THEY WILL. (That guy who signed and pushed more restrictive gun laws is Romney, if the flier didn't make that clear.) Because a Democrat who supports gun control but has made no overt move to actually push normal magazine capacity restrictions or a handgun ban or whatever else is still a Democrat. Oh, and that scary black man thing. With a name that isn't Christian like John or George or William. (Is Mitt a Christian name? WHO CARES. He's not black or a Democrat or a scary socialist Muslim gay Kenyan Obamunist dictator who rules with an iron fist yet is too weak willed  and caves to international pressure! I think I have all of them in there...probably not. They're always coming up with more.)

This leads to my anecdote rather nicely:

I had to call the NRA. Seriously. That isn't a want to call the NRA. I hate talking to the NRA 'cause at the end they always give me some bulls**t about how Barack Obama is coming for my guns (this time, the lady on the other said "your shotgun.")

So at the end of the call, they tried to upsell "THIS LIMITED EDITION ANNIVERSARY KNIFE TO HELP DEFEAT BARACK OBAMA." She went on to tell me that he is trying to ban all handguns and semi-automatic firearms including MY shotgun. I let her go through her whole spiel and at the end said "I will not be contributing for a couple reasons but I'd like to hear what you think about the NRA's support for a right to keep and bear arms restrictionist like Mitt Romney. He passed far more restrictive firearm laws than Obama ever has."

Her response:

Well, thank you for telling me that sir. You have a nice day.

And I know it's not an Open Thread but I have to share this story.

“At this point I interrupted him,” McMillan said, and asked, ‘Can I possibly save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business.’”

Fox’s reply, according to McMillan? “That is correct.”
    ...
The McMillan group of companies may have the last laugh: It is considering no longer accepting Bank of America credit cards for purchases.

In the words of an RKBAer:

    awesome.

and could they really get away with not accepting BofA cards?  if so, that has huge potential.

and am i the only one who thinks it's hilarious that BofA finds "morality" all of a sudden?  wtf?

Romney is a fall guy for the Republican Party so Obama can get re-elected.

Hell Obama is already talking about his 2nd term.
