A SPOOKED rail worker was stopped in his tracks — when he spotted a ghostly figure lurking 150ft up on the Forth Bridge.

David McCready, 30, had photographed a pal grafting on the towering river crossing — only to see the eerie image of a man in a flat cap mysteriously appear in the shot.

And the apparition on the bridge — where more than 60 construction men died in the 1880s — has left some friends fearing supernatural forces are at work.

Last night one nervous pal said: "It was only when he was looking back through some pictures that he suddenly spotted the ghostly figure. It looks like a man wearing a flat cap.

"It's a bit creepy, considering a lot of people died on the bridge in the past."

Glasgow dad David — who is part of the team painting the structure — had decided to take the snap for his eight-year-old son Brydan.

A friend said: "David's wee boy wanted to know what he did for his job, so he took a photo of a colleague working. At the time he didn't notice anything untoward — then he looked back through the pictures."

Researchers believe 63 workers were killed building the Forth Bridge between 1883 and 1890.

Many suffered fatal falls while others were crushed. Hundreds more were seriously injured in the project which had a workforce of 6,400 at its peak.
