Occupy DC Protesters March On Koch-Affiliated Event At Convention Center (PHOTOS)



WASHINGTON -- Protesters marched on the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Friday evening where Americans for Prosperity, a conservative organization funded in part by the Koch brothers, was assembled for its Defending The American Dream Summit and Ronald Reagan tribute dinner.

During the dinner, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said "I am proud to know the Koch brothers," according to The New York Times.

Across the street from the convention center, counterprotesters had organized Occupy The Koch Brothers, featuring a Guerilla Drive-In event featuring videos "fun videos that expose the Koch Brothers in colossal fashion," according to the event's website.

Several streets and intersections around Mount Vernon Square were closed during the duration of the protest near the convention center. A driver heading southbound on 7th Street NW went into a crowd of protesters and injured three people, according to The Associated Press. Metropolitan Police Department said that no charges will be filed against the driver. More details here.

The Koch brothers and other modern day robber barons are aggressive­ly prosecutin­g a political coup against the American people, against the American idea, itself. They've already made very significan­t headway, with many state government­s now under their control and the federal government hanging in the balance.

Their intent is to further disenfranc­hise, disempower and effectivel­y enslave America's working class and its poor. Their tactics are to destroy or diminish the effectivne­ss of our labor unions and other collaborat­ive tools available to working class Americans, to continue the destructio­n of the county's manufactur­ing base and the jobs it has represente­d and, through a variety of voter suppressio­n efforts, to minimize the capacity for those they would enslave to have a voice in the politics and government of the nation, all in an effort to destroy resistance to their evil plan.

These robber barons would see the American idea that most of us have lived by and for, that we still aspire to, destroyed forever. They'll do, quite literally, whatever it takes to achieve political control and, ultimately­, further financial enrichemen­t. They've not the slightest concern for the American people or the American experiment­. They are the enemy of the American idea and their evil plans must be thwarted, or the American experiment will be shortlived­, indeed, and corporate fascism will have its deadly fingers around the throat of the new America. It's happening right now, the so called presidenti­al candidacy of Herman Cain, just one example.

The Koch brothers fueled the conservati­ve Tea Party movement that vigorously opposes Barack Obama, the US president. They fund efforts to derail action on global warming, and support politician­s who object to raising taxes on corporatio­ns or the wealthy to help fix America’s fiscal problems.

Ed Clark told The Nation that libertaria­ns were getting ready to stage “a very big tea party,” because people were “sick to death” of taxes. The Libertaria­n Party platform called for the abolition of the F.B.I. and the C.I.A., as well as of federal regulatory agencies, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Energy. The Party wanted to end Social Security,M­INIMUM WAGE LAWS(empha­sis added), gun control, and all personal and corporate income taxes; it proposed the legalizati­on of prostituti­on, recreation­al drugs, and suicide. Government should be reduced to only one function: the protection of individual rights.

William F. Buckley, Jr., a more traditiona­l conservati­ve, called the movement “Anarcho-T­otalitaria­nism.”
