15 Sep 2011 16.28 Hellenism
This story, along with the discoveries made during the preparations for the Athens Olympics, proves that there is still a great deal of archaeological wealth left to be discovered. Of course Ellada is not in the financial position to carry out such work, but why not allow others to do so, in a way. Archaeological students around the world generally learn in boring class rooms under staff who themselves probably struggle to stay awake.
But imagine if they were invited to pursue their studies, at least their honours and masters with their universities working in partnership with Hellenic universities. providing their time, their labour, watched by skilled teachers of archaeology. Staying, eating, travelling in a nation that could always use that extra income. Creating jobs. And when they make a discovery. adding to our museums in Ellada - nothing leaves- except for their memories, diaries and photos
