Tall Toucan site

Idleb, north Syria- Archeological Tall Toucan site is believed to be Ursho city, aforementioned in Mari Archive. The site is distinguished by successive settlements and periods of time. Its archeological levels date back to the Bronze and Iron Ages and the Persian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, Head of Idleb Antiquities Department, Nicola Kabbad, said.

Archeological Tall Toucan site is a witness to the successive civilizations of the region. The 33-hectare site is located East Saraqib city in Idleb Province, north Syria, 330 km from Damascus.

Head of Excavation and Archeological Studies and Restoration Departments in Idleb Anas Zidan said the finds date back to different eras, including decorated potteries, cocking pots dishes and cups, furnaces for manufacturing pottery, a doll made from pottery and a pottery-made carriage with a man sitting in it dating back to 1800 years B.C.
Zidan added parts of animals' skeletons for a horse, deer, sheep and a dog were discovered in the site, stressing that the finds help in studying the succession of time and are considered as material and archeological evidence. They also shed light on the life styles prevailing at that time.
Zidan pointed out that Tall Toucan includes the High and Lower Cities of Acropol with their private defensive fences and their three gates.
