Jay-Z says Kanye West shouldn’t have apologized to Bush

Jay-Z doesn't think Kanye West should have apologized to George W. Bush for calling Bush a racist after Hurricane Katrina.

In an interview with New York magazine's Vulture website, the prolific rapper defended West's earlier point of view. Jay-Z also had echoed his hip hop protege at the time.

"I still stand by the statement and still believe it. Because what he said wasn't wrong. It was what we all felt," Jay-Z says, noting that West didn't actually use the word "racist."

"But given the circumstances and seeing black people four or five days on a roof with 'Help' written across the roof and dying, and the commander in chief not even on the ground and hands-on helping. … A lot of us came to that conclusion. He's just the one who vocalized it. And we believed that.:

He continued: "It's not just Kanye saying that. It's the nation saying that. So even if Kanye backtracks on his statement because of his personal experiences in his life, I don't."

West apologized to Bush last week for claiming in a post-Katrina telethon that Bush "doesn't care about black people." In Bush's recently released memoir, Bush calls the moment "disgusting" and the lowest moment of his presidency.
