NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, are separating after 40 years of marriage.

According to an e-mailed statement obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday, the Gores said it was "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."

Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider confirmed the statement came from the Gores, but declined to comment further.

Al Gore lost the 2000 presidential election to Republican George W. Bush. He has since campaigned worldwide to draw attention to climate change, which in 2007 led to a Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar for the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

Tipper Gore is known for her advocacy on mental health issues. She became interested partly because her mother suffered from depression.

The Gores have four adult children.

It was reported that the Gore's recently purchased a multimillion dollar mansion in Montecito, Calif.

Al Gore's world heats up with personal issues, so sad there is nothing personal when someone becomes a public icon. - Divorces, the only ones that really benefit from it is lawyers.

Well, I guess wee know now who is the better hubbie out of that 2000 election!  Al and Tipper are getting split, while George W. is still married to Pickles! Course, what woman wouldn't want to be married to George W.?

Guess ole Al was too busy inventing the internet and global warming to pay too much attention to his wife. That's what happens, you see, when you're one of those smart fellers.

One question...

Who gets the internet ?

See ladies just cuz a fraud is bringing in money doesn't mean you have to be so enamored by him that you can't see the fraud.

Doesn't show much intelligence on Tipper's part.  She didn't seem to mind him when he was collecting all that money from his carbon-tax company.

Just goes to show you the gold-digging nature of some women right or wrong.
