Ilan Halimi, Murdered French Jew, Appears In Dating Website

A picture of Ilan Halimi, a young French Jew who was brutally murdered by a gang of youths several years ago in a crime that shocked the nation, has somehow appeared in an advertisement for an online Muslim dating service in Canada, Heeb reports.

A French blogging site initially discovered the photo of Halimi on the site, called Qiran, which apparently caters to new Muslim immigrants. The website expressed "deep sorrow" for any pain it caused Halim's family due to the incident, according to YNet News. The ad has since been removed.

The photo was apparently taken from the profile page of a user, which the company is allowed to use in advertising materials. Those who picked the smiling photo of Halimi are said to have not realized who he was. As for Google, they said these ads are typically published automatically without human screening.

    The 23-year-old victim, Ilan Halimi, was found naked, handcuffed and covered with burn marks near railroad tracks in the Essonne region south of Paris on Feb. 13, 2006. He died on the way to the hospital after being held captive for more than three weeks.
