BuzzFlash.com's Review (excerpt)
We watched this documentary and were blown away at how meticulously it reveals the toxic harm Monsanto has done to America and the world over decades. Monsanto has produced a horror shop list of toxic chemicals, not to mention GMOs and Bovine Growth Hormone.

The last part of the documentary deals with the often confusing issue of Genetically Modified Organisms in foods, how Monsanto created a toxic herbicide and then a GMO to resist it, and -- most significantly -- how it is moving toward the ownership of a large part of the food supply through the patenting of seeds and contamination of seeds Monsanto doesn't even own, but then claims rights to. It is breathtaking in its larceny and corporate ownership of the most basic agricultural building blocks of food necessary to sustain life.

This is a straightforward and detailed documentary that is clear, well-documented and dispassionate, but will leave you enraged.

"Devastating exposé . . . Will freeze the blood in your veins" —The Gazette

"Extraordinary documentary" —LeMonde

"Scrupulous, thorough, and damning" —Montreal Mirror

"Presents a cogent and horrifying enough picture of the world's leading seed manufacturer to warrant concern and fury." —Hour

"The MONSANTO corporation is one of the most dangerous companies on the planet. The fact that the American Amazon store is selling it for almost a hundred dollars should give you an idea of just how powerful this documentary is. This documentary has gotten critical acclaim and is very well researched. Monsanto wants to OWN the food chain and if we are not careful they will complete their plans. Remember these are the same people that told us PCB's and Dioxin where good for us. Why is a chemical company given so much power over our food? Why aren't the American people aware of just how much genetically modified organisms are a part of our everyday food? This documentary gives a clear picture of the issues and answers."

"Monsanto's controversial past combines some of the most toxic products ever sold with misleading reports, pressure tactics, collusion, and attempted corruption. They now race to genetically engineer (and patent) the world's food supply, which profoundly threatens our health, environment, and economy. Combining secret documents with first-hand accounts by victims, scientists, and politicians, this widely praised film exposes why Monsanto has become the world's poster child for malignant corporate influence in government and technology." -- Chelsea Green

Plenty of great extras in this DVD package:

The World of Monsanto is 109 minutes.
Also includes an extra short documentary on Bovine Growth Hormone, "Your Milk on Drugs -- Just Say No!"
A CD about the dangers of genetically modified foods (GMOs).
A handbook on what food products have GMOs.
An explanation of the basic issues in the GMO controversy.

About the Director:

Ms. Robin spent three years working on The World according to Monsanto, beginning with four months of intensive internet research examining declassified documents, leaked internal files, scientific studies, trial transcripts, articles, and first hand accounts of whistleblowers. The film actually shows Ms. Robin doing internet searches, identifying incriminating documents that are also available to everyone. She then takes us with her to four continents where she verifies the information and sheds more light on Monsanto's outrageous behavior and impact.

Since her directing debut in 1989, filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin has received 20 awards for her investigative documentaries filmed around the world. She is the recipient of the prestigious “Prix Albert Londres,” equivalent to the French Pulitzer, and a recent film, Death Squads : The French School, broadcast on Arte and Canal+ television networks in Europe, received the Laurier du Sénat (The Senate Laureate, The Award for the Best Political Documentary), FIGRA's Best Investigative Documentary Award, The Award of Merit from the Latin American Studies Association (LASA / United States), and The Critics' Award at Cairo's Cinema Festival, among others. Her book The Photos of the Century: 100 Historic Moments has more than 700,000 copies in print in seven languages.
