I live not to far away from there.  Smiley

They have just opened a second bridge, just to the south of the 1950's model.

That means we now have four lanes of traffic in each direction.

This is supposed to releive stress on the aging bridge and prevent it from diving into the Narrows again.

The wreakage of the old bridge is an outstanding place to find the Giant Pacific Octopus. (You have do dive at slack tide though.)

You mean there actually is a giant octopus down there?

The old bridge can't be as poorly constructed as the first version of the bridge.  I first saw this vid in an engineering class I was taking:


Has to be one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. I feel bad for poor Tubbby.

There are Pacific Octopus (plural) amongst the wreckage of the old bridge.

The only difference between the first bridge (that collapsed), and the 1950's version is that the latter had box trusses underneath the bridge deck.
