How could any of these ancient cultures possibly know that they were experiencing a worldwide flood when they were written in an age where they didn't even know how big that the world was? 

Flooding happens everywhere, there has never been any suggestion that any of these floods happened all at the same time.

At the end of the Ice Age sea levels all around the world rose about 400 feet.  So yes it they did happen all at once.

That is true, Robert, and yet the ancients most likely didn't know about it. There was no writing in place at that time, so the event would not have been recorded.  Not only that, all the peoples that came up with these flood myths weren't even tribes then, so that particular flood probably wasn't part of their mythology.

We are probably talking about a series of much later regional floods.
