Subduction is verified by plate motion observed at and near convergent plate boundaries and places such as oceanic trenches where seismic equipment is placed and tracked. The interest in these regions arises because of the high degree of seismic activity that the specific structure of Wadati-Benioff shear zones confirm as caused by subduction. The ultimate verification of subduction and its confluent mantle flow is the presence of strictly cosmogenic isotopes in andesitic lavas erupted directly above where subducted plate can be seen on its way down into the mantle in seismic charts.

If the Atlantic is spreading apart, and the land masses in the Pacific do reach a point that the are subducted downward.

Food for thought.

Hello Big O Little O!!  Welcome to the forum.

What if- what if mother earth is expanding and contracting like our lungs do when we breathe?

Subduction is part of the problem, however it is not the only method that Atlantis could have sunk.

I like ther Otto Muck thesis wherein a space object hits the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, causes eruptions, and it sinks that way.  I would suppose that would be some form of eruption/earthquake/tectonic depression.

Dear 0_o,

Welcome to the forum,

Subduction is a phenomena that happens in the Pacific and not in the Atlantic, except for the Puerto Rico Trench:

Quote
The Puerto Rico Trench is located at a boundary between two plates that pass each other along a transform boundary with only a small component of subduction.

Why the title (Subduction places Atlantis where?)? Is there anything that you wanted to discuss regarding Atlantis? could you please be more specific?

regards,
Mario Dantas
