Bombshell: Bin Laden worked for US till 9/11
by lukery

Fri Jul 31, 2009 at 05:01:42 AM PDT

Former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds dropped a bombshell on the Mike Malloy radio show, guest-hosted by Brad Friedman (audio, partial transcript).

In the interview, Sibel says that the US maintained 'intimate relations' with Bin Laden, and the Taliban, "all the way until that day of September 11."

These 'intimate relations' included using Bin Laden for 'operations' in Central Asia, including Xinjiang, China. These 'operations' involved using al Qaeda and the Taliban in the same manner "as we did during the Afghan and Soviet conflict," that is, fighting 'enemies' via proxies.
lukery's diary :: ::

As Sibel has previously described, and as she reiterates in this latest interview, this process involved using Turkey (with assistance from 'actors from Pakistan, and Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia') as a proxy, which in turn used Bin Laden and the Taliban and others as a proxy terrorist army.

Control of Central Asia
The goals of the American 'statesmen' directing these activities included control of Central Asia's vast energy supplies and new markets for military products.

The Americans had a problem, though. They needed to keep their fingerprints off these operations to avoid a) popular revolt in Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan), and b) serious repercussions from China and Russia. They found an ingenious solution: Use their puppet-state Turkey as a proxy, and appeal to both pan-Turkic and pan-Islam sensibilities.

Turkey, a NATO ally, has a lot more credibility in the region than the US and, with the history of the Ottoman Empire, could appeal to pan-Turkic dreams of a wider sphere of influence. The majority of the Central Asian population shares the same heritage, language and religion as the Turks.

In turn, the Turks used the Taliban and al Qaeda, appealing to their dreams of a pan-Islamic caliphate (Presumably. Or maybe the Turks/US just paid very well.)

Accordingto Sibel:

This started more than a decade-long illegal, covert operation in Central Asia by a small group in the US intent on furthering the oil industry and the Military Industrial Complex, using Turkish operatives, Saudi partners and Pakistani allies, furthering this objective in the name of Islam.

Uighurs
Sibel was recently askedto write about the recent situation with the Uighurs in Xinjiang, but she declined, apart from saying that "our fingerprint is all over it."

Of course, Sibel isn't the first or only person to recognize any of this.  Eric Margolis, one of the best reporters in the West on matters of Central Asia, stated that the Uighurs in the training camps in Afghanistan up to 2001:

"were being trained by Bin Laden to go and fight the communist Chinese in Xinjiang, and this was not only with the knowledge, but with the support of the CIA, because they thought they might use them if war ever broke out with China."

And also that:

"Afghanistan was not a hotbed of terrorism, these were commando groups, guerrilla groups, being trained for specific purposes in Central Asia."

In a separate interview, Margolis said:

"That illustrates Henry Kissinger's bon mot that the only thing more dangerous than being America's enemy is being an ally, because these people were paid by the CIA, they were armed by the US, these Chinese Muslims from Xinjiang, the most-Western province.

The CIA was going to use them in the event of a war with China, or just to raise hell there, and they were trained and supported out of Afghanistan, some of them with Osama Bin Laden's collaboration. The Americans were up to their ears with this."

Rogues Gallery
Last year, Sibel came up with a brilliant idea to expose some of the criminal activity that she is forbidden to speak about: she publishedeighteen photos, titled "Sibel Edmonds’ State Secrets Privilege Gallery," of people involved the operations that she has been trying to expose. One of those people is Anwar Yusuf Turani, the so-called 'President-in-exile' of East Turkistan (Xinjiang). This so-called 'government-in-exile' was 'established' on Capitol Hill in September, 2004, drawing a sharp rebuke from China.

Also featured in Sibel's Rogues Gallery was 'former' spook Graham Fuller, who was instrumental in the establishment of Turani's 'government-in-exile' of  East Turkistan. Fuller has written extensively on Xinjiang, and his "Xinjiang Project" for Rand Corp is apparentlythe blueprint for Turani's government-in-exile. Sibel has openly statedher contempt for Mr. Fuller.

Susurluk
The Turkish establishment has a long history of mingling matters of state with terrorism, drug trafficking and other criminal activity, best exemplified by the 1996 Susurluk incident which exposed the so-called Deep State.

Sibel states that "a few main Susurluk actors also ended up in Chicago where they centered 'certain' aspects of their operations (Especially East Turkistan-Uighurs)."

One of the main Deep State actors, Mehmet Eymur, former Chiefof Counter-Terrorism for Turkey's intelligence agency, the MIT, features in Sibel's Rogues Gallery. Eymur was given exile in the US. Another member of Sibel's gallery, Marc Grossman was Ambassador to Turkey at the time that the Susurluk incident exposed the Deep State. He was recalled shortly after, prior to the end of his assignment, as was Grossman's underling, Major Douglas Dickerson, who later tried to recruit Sibel into the spying ring.

The modus operandi of the Susurluk gang is the same as the activities that Sibel describes as taking place in Central Asia, the only difference is that this activity was exposed in Turkey a decade ago, whereas the organs of the state in the US, including the corporate media, have successfully suppressed this story.

Chechnya, Albania & Kosovo
Central Asia is not the only place where American foreign policy makers have shared interests with Bin Laden. Consider the war in Chechnya. As I documented here, Richard Perle and Stephen Solarz (both in Sibel's gallery) joined other leading neocon luminaries such as Elliott Abrams, Kenneth Adelman, Frank Gaffney, Michael Ledeen, James Woolsey, and Morton Abramowitz in a group called the American Committee for Peace in Chechnya (ACPC). For his part, Bin Laden donated$25 million to the cause, as well as numerous fighters, and technical expertise, establishing training camps.

US interests also convergedwith those of al-Qaeda in Kosovo and Albania.

Of course, it is not uncommon for circumstances to arise where 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend.' On the other hand, in a transparent democracy, we expect a full accounting of the circumstances leading up to a tragic event like 9/11. The 9/11 Commission was supposed to provide exactly that.

State Secrets
Sibel has famously been dubbed the most gagged woman in America, having the State Secrets Privilege imposed on her twice. Her 3.5 hour testimony to the 9/11 Commission has been entirely suppressed, reduced to a single footnote which refers readers to her classified testimony. In the interview, she says that the information that was classified in her case specifically identifies that the US was using Bin Laden and the Taliban in Central Asia, including Xinjiang. In the interview, Sibel reiterates that when invoking the gag orders, the US government claims that it is protecting " 'sensitive diplomatic relations,' protecting Turkey, protecting Israel, protecting Pakistan, protecting Saudi Arabia..." This is no doubt partially true, but it is also true that they are protecting themselves too, and it is a crime in the US to use classification and secrecy to cover up crimes.

As Sibel says in the interview:

I have information about things that our government has lied to us about... those things can be proven as lies, very easily, based on the information they classified in my case, because we did carry very intimate relationship with these people, and it involves Central Asia, all the way up to September 11.

Summary
The bombshell here is obviously that certain people in the US were using Bin Laden up to September 11, 2001.

It is important to understand why: the US outsourced terror operations to al Qaeda and the Taliban for many years, promoting the Islamization of Central Asia in an attempt to personally profit off military sales as well as oil and gas concessions.

The silence by the US government on these matters is deafening. So, too, is the blowback.

An article in the French daily Le Figaro confirms that Osama bin Laden underwent surgery in an American Hospital in Dubai in July.

During his stay in the hospital, he met with a CIA official. While on the World's "most wanted list", no attempt was made to arrest him during his two week stay in the hospital, shedding doubt on the Administration's resolve to track down Osama bin Laden.

Barely a few days ago Defense Secretary Rumsfeld stated that it would be difficult to find him and extradite him. Its like "searching for a needle in a stack of hay". But the US could have ordered his arrest and extradition in Dubai last July. But then they would not have had a pretext of waging a war. Meanwhile, innocent civilians are being killed by B-52 Bombers as means "to go after" Osama bin Laden. According to UN sources, the so-called "campaign against international terrorism" could lead to the death of several million people from an impending famine.

The original article in French is also posted on the CRG webpage.

The CIA met Bin Laden while undergoing treatment at an American Hospital last July in Dubai

Dubai, one of the seven emirates of the Federation of the United Arab Emirates, North-East of Abi-Dhabi. This city, population 350,000, was the backdrop of a secret meeting between Osama bin Laden and the local CIA agent in July. A partner of the administration of the American Hospital in Dubai claims that public enemy number one stayed at this hospital between the 4th and 14th of July.

Having taken off from the Quetta airport in Pakistan, bin Laden was transferred to the hospital upon his arrival at Dubai airport. He was accompanied by his personal physician and faithful lieutenant, who could be Ayman al-Zawahari--but on this sources are not entirely certain--, four bodyguards, as well as a male Algerian nurse, and admitted to the American Hospital, a glass and marble building situated between the Al-Garhoud and Al-Maktoum bridges.

Each floor of the hospital has two "VIP" suites and fifteen rooms. The Saudi billionnaire was admitted to the well-respected urology department run by Teerry Callaway, gallstone and infertility specialist. Dr Callaway declined to respond to our questions despite several phone calls.

As early as March, 2000, 'Asia Week,' published in Hong Kong, expressed concern for bin Laden's health, describing a serious medical problem that could put his life in danger because of "a kidney infection that is propagating itself to the liver and requires specialized treatment". According to authorized sources, bin Laden had mobile dialysis equipment shipped to his hideout in Kandahar in the first part of 2000. According to our sources, bin Laden's "travels for health reasons" have taken place before. Between 1996 and 1998, bin Laden made several trips to Dubai on business.

On September 27th, 15 days after the World Trade Center attacks, at the request of the United States, the Central Bank of the Arab Emirates announced an order to freeze assts and investments of 26 people or organisations suspected of mainting contact with bin Laden's organization, and in particular at the Dubai Islamic Bank.

"Relations between the Emirate and Saudi Arabia have always been very close," according to sources, "princes of reigning families, having recognized the Taliban regime, often travelled to Afghanistan. One of the princes of a ruling family regularily went hunting on the land of bin Laden, whom he had known and visited for many years."

There are daily flights between Dubai and Quetta by both Pakistan and Emirates Airlines. As to private planes from Saudi Arabia or from the Emirates, they regulariy fly to Quetta, where their arrival is rarely registered in airport logs.

While he was hospitalised, bin Laden received visits from many members of his family as well as prominent Saudis and Emiratis. During the hospital stay, the local CIA agent, known to many in Dubai, was seen taking the main elevator of the hospital to go to bin Laden's hospital room.

A few days later, the CIA man bragged to a few friends about having visited bin Laden. Authorised sources say that on July 15th, the day after bin Laden returned to Quetta, the CIA agent was called back to headquarters.

In late July, Emirates customs agents arrested Franco-Algerian activist Djamel Beghal at the Dubai airport. In early August, French and American authorities were advised of the arrest. Interrogated by local authorities in Abu Dhabi, Beghal stated that he was called to Afghanistan in late 2000 by Abou Zoubeida, a military leader of bin Laden's organization, Al Qaeda. Beghal's mission: bomb the US embassy on Gabriel avenue, near the Place de la Concorde, upon his return to France.

According to Arab diplomatic sources as well as French intelligence, very specific information was transmitted to the CIA with respect to terrorist attacks against American interests around the world, including on US soil. A DST report dated 7 September enumerates all the intelligence, and specifies that the order to attack was to come from Afghanistan.

In August, at the US Embassy in Paris, an emergency meeting was called between the DGSE (French foreign intelligence service) and senior US intelligence officials. The Americans were extremely worried, and requested very specific information from the French about Algerian activists, without advising their counterparts about the reasons for their requests. To the question "what do you fear in the coming days?", the Americans kept a difficult-to-fathom silence.

Contacts between the CIA and bin Laden began in 1979 when, as a representative of his family's business, bin Laden began recruiting volunteers for the Afghan resistance against the Red Army. FBI investigators examining the embassy bombing sites in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam discovered that evidence led to military explosives from the US Army, and that these explosives had been delivered threee years earlier to Afghan Arabs, the infamous international volunteer brigades involved side by side with bin Laden during the Afghan war against the Red Army.

In the pursuit of its investigations, the FBI discovered "financing agreements" that the CIA had been developing with its "arab friends" for years. The Dubai meeting is then within the logic of "a certain American policy".

Where was Osama bin Laden on 9/11?
Bush Administration knew the Whereabouts of Osama
by Michel Chossudovsky
www.globalresearch.ca 16 November 2003 (revised 17 November 2003)

The URL of this article is: http://globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO311A.html

If the CBS report by Dan Rather is accurate and Osama had indeed been admitted to the Pakistani military hospital on September 10, 2001,  courtesy of America's ally, he was in all likelihood still in hospital in Rawalpindi on the 11th of September, when the attacks occurred.  In all probability, his whereabouts were known to US officials on the morning of September 12, when Secretary of State Colin Powell initiated negotiations with Pakistan, with a view to arresting and extraditing bin Laden.

A recent Reuters report (11/13/03; scroll down) quoting Labeviere's book "Corridors of Terror" points to alleged "negotiations" between Osama bin Laden and the CIA, which took place two months prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks at the American Hospital in Dubai, UAE, while bin Laden was recovering from a kidney dialysis treatment

Enemy Number One in hospital recovering from dialysis treatment "negotiating with CIA"?

The meeting with the CIA head of station at the American Hospital in Dubai, UAE was confirmed by a report in the French daily newspaper Le Figaro, published  in October 2001. (See Alexandra Richard, at http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/RIC111B.html ,

For a virtual tour of the hospital click http://www.ahdubai.com/site/tour_1.htm

The  "negotiations" between the CIA and Osama (a CIA "intelligence asset") is sheer disinformation. Even though the CIA has refuted the claim, the report serves to highlight Osama as a bona fide "Enemy of America," rather than a creation of the CIA. In the words of former CIA agent Milt Bearden in an interview with Dan Rather on September 12, 2001, “If they didn’t have an Osama bin Laden, they would invent one.”

Intelligence negotiations never take place on a hospital bed. The CIA knew Osama was at the American Hospital in Dubai. Rather than negotiate, they could have arrested him. He was on the FBI most wanted list.

According to the Reuters report: "At the time, bin Laden had a multi-million dollar price on his head  for his suspected role in the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in East Africa". So why did the hospital staff, who knew that Osama was at the American Hospital in Dubai, not claim the reward?

The Figaro report points to complicity between the CIA and Osama rather than "negotiation". (see excerpt below). Consistent with several other reports, it also points to the antagonism between the FBI and the CIA.

If the CIA had wanted to arrest Osama bin Laden prior to September 11, they could have done it then in Dubai.  But they would not have had a the war on terrorism pretext for waging a major military operation in the Middle East and Central Asia.

According to Le Figaro:

"Dubai... was the backdrop of a secret meeting between Osama bin Laden and the local CIA agent in July [2001]. A partner of the administration of the American Hospital in Dubai claims that "public enemy number one" stayed at this hospital between the 4th and 14th of July. While he was hospitalized, bin Laden received visits from many members of his family as well as prominent Saudis and Emiratis. During the hospital stay, the local CIA agent, known to many in Dubai, was seen taking the main elevator of the hospital to go [up] to bin Laden's hospital room. A few days later, the CIA man bragged to a few friends about having visited bin Laden. Authorized sources say that on July 15th, the day after bin Laden returned to Quetta [Pakistan], the CIA agent was called back to headquarters. In the pursuit of its investigations, the FBI discovered "financing agreements" that the CIA had been developing with its "Arab friends" for years. The Dubai meeting is, so it would seem, within the logic of 'a certain American policy.'" (http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/RIC111B.html )

The Figaro report is confirmed by several other news reports including the London Times (1 Nov 2001 at http://www.unansweredquestions.org/timeline/2001/londontimes110101.html ). During his 11-day stay in the American hospital, Osama received specialized medical treatment from a Canadian urologist Dr. Terry Calloway .(See http://www.ahdubai.com/site/ps18_2.htm )

Osama back in Hospital on September 10, 2001, one day before the 9/11 attacks

According to Dan Rather, CBS, Bin Laden was back in Hospital, one day before the 9/11 attacks, on September 10, this time, courtesy of America's indefectible ally Pakistan. Pakistan's Military Intelligence (ISI) told CBS that bin Laden had received dialysis treatment in Rawalpindi, at Pak Army's headquarters:

[transcript of CBS report, see http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CBS203A.html ,

see also http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/28/eveningnews/main325887.shtml ]

DAN RATHER, CBS ANCHOR: As the United states and its allies in the war on terrorism press the hunt for Osama bin Laden, CBS News has exclusive information tonight about where bin Laden was and what he was doing in the last hours before his followers struck the United States September 11.

This is the result of hard-nosed investigative reporting by a team of CBS news journalists, and by one of the best foreign correspondents in the business, CBS`s Barry Petersen. Here is his report.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) BARRY PETERSEN, CBS CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Everyone remembers what happened on September 11. Here`s the story of what may have happened the night before. It is a tale as twisted as the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

CBS News has been told that the night before the September 11 terrorist attack, Osama bin Laden was in Pakistan. He was getting medical treatment with the support of the very military that days later pledged its backing for the U.S. war on terror in Afghanistan.

Pakistan intelligence sources tell CBS News that bin Laden was spirited into this military hospital in Rawalpindi for kidney dialysis treatment. On that night, says this medical worker who wanted her identity protected, they moved out all the regular staff in the urology department and sent in a secret team to replace them. She says it was treatment for a very special person. The special team was obviously up to no good.

"The military had him surrounded," says this hospital employee who also wanted his identity masked, "and I saw the mysterious patient helped out of a car. Since that time," he says, "I have seen many pictures of the man. He is the man we know as Osama bin Laden. I also heard two army officers talking to each other. They were saying that Osama bin Laden had to be watched carefully and looked after." Those who know bin Laden say he suffers from numerous ailments, back and stomach problems. Ahmed Rashid, who has written extensively on the Taliban, says the military was often there to help before 9/11.

AHMED RASHID, TALIBAN EXPERT: There were reports that Pakistani intelligence had helped the Taliban buy dialysis machines. And the rumor was that these were wanted for Osama bin Laden.

PETERSEN (on camera): Doctors at the hospital told CBS News there was nothing special about that night, but they refused our request to see any records. Government officials tonight denied that bin Laden had any medical treatment on that night.

(voice-over): But it was Pakistan`s President Musharraf who said in public what many suspected, that bin Laden suffers from kidney disease, saying he thinks bin Laden may be near death. His evidence, watching this most recent video, showing a pale and haggard bin Laden, his left hand never moving. Bush administration officials admit they don`t know if bin Laden is sick or even dead.

DONALD RUMSFELD, DEFENSE SECRETARY: With respect to the issue of Osama bin Laden`s health, I just am -- don`t have any knowledge.

PETERSEN: The United States has no way of knowing who in Pakistan`s military or intelligence supported the Taliban or Osama bin Laden maybe up to the night before 9/11 by arranging dialysis to keep him alive. So the United States may not know if those same people might help him again perhaps to freedom.

Barry Petersen, CBS News, Islamabad.

(END VIDEOTAPE) END

It should be noted, that the hospital is directly under the jurisdiction of the Pakistani Armed Forces, which has close links to the Pentagon. U.S. military advisers based in Rawalpindi. work closely with the Pakistani Armed Forces. Again, no attempt was made to arrest America's best known fugitive, but then maybe bin Laden was serving another "better purpose". Rumsfeld claimed at the time that he had no knowledge regarding Osama's health. (see CBS transcript above).

Needless to say, the CBS report is a crucial piece of information in the 9/11 jigsaw. It refutes the administration's claim that the whereabouts of bin Laden are unknown. It points to a Pakistan connection, it suggests a cover-up at the highest levels of the Bush administration.

Dan Rather and Barry Petersen fail to draw the implications of their January 2002 report.  They fail to beg the question: where was Osama on 9/11? If they are to stand by their report,  the conclusion is obvious: The administration is lying regarding the whereabouts of Osama.

Inpatient dialysis treatment tends to be longer than 24 hours in most American hospitals, which suggests that Osama would have been discharged from the Hospital on or "after" September 11.

If the CBS report is accurate and Osama had indeed been admitted to the Pakistani military hospital on September 10, courtesy of America's ally, he was in all likelihood still in hospital in Rawalpindi on the 11th of September, when the attacks occurred.  In all probability,  his whereabouts were known to US officials on the morning of September 12, when Secretary of State Colin Powell initiated negotiations with Pakistan, with a view to arresting and extraditing bin Laden.

These negotiations, led by General Mahmoud Ahmad, head of Pakistan's military intelligence, on behalf of the government of President Pervez Musharraf,  took place on the 12th and 13th  of September in Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage's office.

* 'Operation Northwoods: Plan for Terror to Justify War'
http://emperors-clothes.com/images/north-int.htm

We know about this plan through the Freedom of Information Act. How many such plans do we *not* know of?

It was developed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The purpose: to stage phony anti-US terrorist attacks and blame them on Cuba. These plans allowed for the possibility of killing hundreds or even thousands of US citizens (by sinking a US military ship) and non-citizens (Cuban refugees). Then Castro would be blamed. This would make the US the victim and thus justify nuclear attack on the Socialist states (!)

We have posted the Northwoods document in full both as a pdf file and as regular web pages. We have also posted a commentary by Jared Israel with hyperlinks to the full text of Northwoods so you can see the context of the excerpts on which he is commenting.

========================================================

5. The day-to-day actions of the NATO empire show that racism is a key part of its modus operandi

========================================================

One of the problems Western citizens have understanding the US/Euro Empire's plans for the former Soviet Union and other areas (e.g., India) is that they know little about the assault on Yugoslavia.

It is especially true that most people in the West don't grasp this Empire's commitment to what might be called *Strategic Racism*.

*Strategic Racism*, or to be more accurate, *Geo-strategic racism*, involves the devastation of populations which are now resisting, or, based on their culture and history, are expected to resist Imperial domination. These are the *target* populations. Target populations may have been - but were not necessarily - on the "other side" during the cold war. (It's not that simple.)

Simultaneously, *Strategic Racism* involves the strengthening of fascistic forces among populations which have allied with Imperial aggression (for example, with the Ottoman Empire or Hitler) in the past and/or who have had, in the past, oppressor relations with the targets. These are the *proxies*. Perhaps they have dominated the target populations in the past and therefore view the target people as inferior, only suitable to be slaves.

The new Empire leverages the social-cultural vulnerabilities of proxy groups, helping the most racist political forces among them. With these racists in control, the proxy groups can be used as foot soldiers in the war against target peoples and the consolidation of Imperial power in geo-strategic areas. Perhaps the most important such area is in and around the former Soviet Union, including the Balkans, the Baltic region, and Central and Southern Asia. This area is crucial for the eminently practical reason that it still contains an organized military force that can, especially in concert with others in the region, resist the empire - and because it was the center of resistance, despite many weaknesses, in the past.

Geo-strategic racism involves the promulgation of potentially powerful hatreds, such as Serbophobia in the Balkans and other parts of Europe, and anti-Semitism worldwide. (In the past, Emperor's Clothes has underestimated the significance of anti-Semitism as a tool for our current Empire builders, and has written little about how it is being promulgated. However, that will be corrected in forthcoming articles. These will include a thorough analysis of the role of Elie Wiesel in the trial of Ms. Pavsic at The Hague Tribunal; an analysis of the Saudi Minister of Interior, Prince Naif's anti-Semitic remarks made December 5th and the response to those remarks, amounting to approval, by the Bush administration; and an analysis of the attack by a leading Saudi Arabian newspaper, controlled by that country's secret police, on Emperor's Clothes.)

Evidence of *Geo-strategic racism* can be found in US and European actions throughout the former Yugoslavia. The following interviews and analyses point to bizarre, vicious and racist behavior by NATO, even though NATO professed to be pursuing multiethnic harmony! Our hypothesis - that NATO uses *strategic racism* to consolidate control over key strategic areas - explains this behavior. Are we wrong? Is there some other explanation?

Why have the US *AND* Western Europe re-created the Nazi map in the Balkans?

* "The Terrorists Attacking Macedonia Are Nato Troops, Not Rebels"
by Jared Israel with research by Rick Rozoff, George Thompson and Max Sinclair
http://emperors-clothes.com/mac/times.htm

Many critics of NATO argue that it is motivated by short-term economic concerns - profits for various big companies. Usually these are oil companies. This argument falls flat in considering Macedonia. Before and during the war of aggression against Yugoslavia, the Macedonian government proved itself 100% ready to cooperate with anything the West proposed - anything. It certainly would not have resisted commercial ventures.

And yet, NATO deployed the fascist Kosovo terrorists, which had been regrouped as an official UN organization (this sounds unbelievable, but it is openly admitted in the pro-NATO media) to devastate Macedonia. Why?

This is our second interview with Cedomir Prlincevic. Mr. Prlincevic was the Chief Archivist in Pristina, Kosovo, before being driven out by the KLA with British NATO approval during the summer of 1999. (See interview above) This is perhaps *the* crucial document for understanding both what happened in Kosovo and *strategic racism*.

Mr. Prlincevic explains how NATO took advantage of unusual aspects of Kosovo Albanian culture to turn this group into a proxy force in attacking the Balkans. The interview explains the function of the so-called Kosovo Verification Mission, the reason the attempt by the Milosevic government to arm Albanians against the KLA terrorists failed, and who it was that ordered Albanians to flee during the NATO bombing. It was *not* Mr. Milosevic. Regarding the issues raised in this interview, officials in the Milosevic government were - and remain! - loath to discuss them publicly due to an admirable but perhaps overly dogmatic refusal to even appear to criticize any ethnic group. The interview is must reading if one would understand how strategic racism is applied in practice by the New World Order.

========================================================

6. What is the US/European Strategy in Central Asia? Is it really "all about oil"?

========================================================

Is it geared to immediate corporate profits or other interests? *Or* is it based on an attempt to create a neocolonial New World Order in which a) powerful blocks potentially able to resist the US Empire are broken up; b) the opposition to the New World Order is led by neo-fascists who foment and appeal to racism and c) fascistic junior partners rule various regions, with some such fascists having the public posture of opposing the empire. In other words, dystopia.

Chechen conflict mirrors Afghan options
Tough terrain, Islamic rebels stymie Russia

Anna Badkhen, Chronicle Staff Writer

Thursday, November 22, 2001

(11-22) 04:00 PDT Moscow -- Clusters of rebels hide in impregnable mountains, launching hit-and- run raids on federal troops and mining the roads they travel on. Guerrilla fighters ambush and kill several soldiers every day. After seven years of war, insurgent leaders remain at large.

This is the war in Russia's breakaway republic of Chechnya, where small groups of Islamic separatists continue to operate, despite the Kremlin's ferocious campaign to crush them.

A replay of the bloody Chechen quagmire -- an intermittent conflict waged without front lines or respect for borders -- may be what is in store for Afghanistan.

As the Taliban rapidly abandon their positions, groups of fighters continue to roam the country, launching surprise hits on the U.S.-backed opposition and Western journalists in areas that have been declared liberated from the violent Islamic regime. The war between the extremist Islamic militia and the U.S.-backed opposition is far from over.

No one knows this better than the Kremlin.

In October 1999 the Russian army re-entered Chechnya, from which it had withdrawn in 1996 after a failed two-year operation to quell the revolt. Moscow said the campaign would last a few months; in a matter of weeks, the army swept through the province, and by mid-January 2000 it had captured the capital, Grozny.

Back then, the Kremlin said that having won the cities, Russia had basically won the war.

The Kremlin was wrong.

Two years into its effort to weed out rebel sympathizers, Russia continues to lose soldiers in daily clashes with the elusive enemy. As of May, Moscow said 3,500 Russian servicemen had died. Watchdog groups in Moscow, such as the Soldiers' Mothers Committee, say the losses are at least twice as high.

The civilian toll may be even higher. Russian officials do not keep track of losses among civilians and deny that the army is deliberately mistreating ordinary Chechens. However, Aslanbek Aslakhanov, a Chechen member of the Russian parliament, said recently that 10 to 15 civilians were murdered every day.

Now, the same Kremlin spin masters who for the past two years had been saying that victory was just around the corner admit that, having conquered Chechnya's land, Moscow has failed to subdue its people.

Sergei Yastrzhembsky, the Kremlin's top spokesman on Chechnya, warned last week that the U.S.-backed opposition in Afghanistan should expect the same result. Chechens and Afghans alike consider their lands unconquerable -- a psychology that works against imposed military solutions.

"The quick taking of cities in Afghanistan does not mean the end of military activity," Yastrzhembsky said. "The experience of Chechnya shows seizing populated areas does not signify the end of war."

In another parallel between Afghanistan and Chechnya, support for the concept of a strict Islamic state gained momentum because of human rights violations.

The Taliban was originally hailed for restoring order to a chaotic, lawless nation. In Chechnya, human rights violations by Russian soldiers -- random detentions, arbitrary killings and routine trade in imprisoned Chechens and their dead bodies -- have pushed many ordinary Chechens into the arms of the extremists.

Residents not prone to political activity have been transformed into guerrilla warriors seeking to protect their families from the violence and humiliation that have become emblematic of Moscow's campaign there.

For years, Russia has endured condemnation by Western nations for its heavy- handed tactics in Chechnya. But the Kremlin was handed a public relations windfall by the terrorist attacks in the United States on Sept. 11. Finally, it could point to the destructive capabilities of Islamic extremist groups in a shared international context.

Eager to compare its prickly domestic conflict with the U.S.-led campaign in Afghanistan, Russia now argues that both Chechnya and Afghanistan are similar fronts in the same campaign -- the fight to eradicate Islamic extremists worldwide.

The Russian government has repeatedly said that the Taliban was exporting terrorists to Chechnya from training camps in Afghanistan. Moscow also said one of Chechnya's most influential rebels, the Saudi-born commander who goes by the name Khattab, was sponsored by suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network.

In the past, the West has dismissed these allegations. But after President Vladimir Putin pledged to back U.S.-led strikes on suspected terrorist havens in Afghanistan, the Bush administration has signaled that it is ready to consider the Kremlin's claims that the rebels in Chechnya are terrorists with close ties to bin Laden.

Two weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, President Bush said, "We do believe there's some al Qaeda folks in Chechnya." Washington also called on Chechen separatists to "cut all contact with international terrorist groups."

More recently, the United States promised to help Russia cut off Chechen separatists from their foreign suppliers. U.S. Ambassador Alexander Vershbow told reporters on Monday that this applied to all mercenaries fighting against Russian troops in Chechnya -- and particularly Khattab.

Khattab fought in Afghanistan alongside bin Laden against the Soviet army, which occupied the country for a decade, from 1979 to 1989.

Russia says Khattab set up al Qaeda-type training camps in Chechnya, where he trained terrorists whose mission was to launch bomb attacks on Russian cities, including Moscow, in 2000.

A court in Stavropol, 750 miles south of Moscow, convicted five men last week of plotting the attacks and sentenced them to between nine and 15 years in prison.

At the moment, Khattab is believed to be in charge of the al Qaeda fighters trapped in the besieged Afghan city of Kunduz. News that he may be facing his last stand there has cheered the Russian military.

How Jihad Made Its Way to Chechnya
Secular Separatist Movement Transformed by Militant Vanguard
SHARON LAFRANIERE / Washington Post 26apr03

KARAMAKHI, Dagestan -- This isolated southwest Russian village of dirt roads and one-story clay brick houses was profoundly peaceful, its residents say, until a Jordanian cleric named Khabib Abdurrakhman arrived in the early 1990s with a seemingly irresistible deal.

To a hamlet made destitute by the collapse of the Soviet Union, Abdurrakhman brought a slaughtered cow and a free feast every week. In a place where many people were left jobless by the demise of the local collective farm, he handed out $30 to every convert who came to his simple mosque. And to those adrift in the social chaos of the Soviet breakdown, he offered a new purpose in life -- a form of their traditional Islam rooted in fundamentalism and militancy.

Few questioned where his money came from, or who were the other Arabs who began to drift into the community. By the time questions did arise, it was too late.

By 1999, Abdurrakhman's growing band of followers had transformed the little settlement into an armed enclave, crisscrossed by tunnels and trenches and stockpiled with weapons for Abdurrakhman's true mission: severing Dagestan from Russian control and merging it into an Islamic state with neighboring Chechnya.

"They tried to lure people in a friendly way at first," according to Magomed Makhdiyev, the village imam, who says he tried to withstand the fundamentalists' influence. "But by 1999, they were saying, 'Join us or we'll cut your head off.' "

Abdurrakhman was part of a militant vanguard that deeply influenced what was then a secular separatist movement in Chechnya, recasting it in part as an international jihad that spilled over from the republic to neighboring Dagestan. Today the Russian government insists that it is impossible to understand the Chechen conflict without understanding the role of people like Abdurrakhman.

Russian intelligence officials say he is just one of hundreds of Arab radicals whose fervor and funds fueled fighting that has cost the lives of more than 4,500 Russian soldiers and thousands of rebels, plus many civilians, over the past 31/2 years.

Interviews with Chechen exiles, villagers in Chechnya and Dagestan, Western diplomats and terrorism experts confirm that Arab militants have played a significant role in the conflict. The full story has yet to emerge, however. Arab and Chechen commanders waging war in the republic are in hiding and could not be interviewed.

In the Russian government's view, Chechnya's war is nothing more or less than a terrorist enterprise, paid for by a combination of al Qaeda money and fraudulent charitable donations, commanded by Arabs trained in Afghanistan and fomented by outsider clerics such as Abdurrakhman preaching armed revolution under the theological justification of an Islamic strain known as Wahhabism.

"There are no more al Qaeda camps" in Chechnya, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in February. "But there is still al Qaeda money. . . . There are instructors who are working, there are mercenaries from a number of Muslim countries recruited by radicals. Unfortunately, all that still exists there."

A Change of View

Until the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, the Russian argument got little hearing in the West, where officials suspected that Russia was mainly trying to deflect criticism of human rights abuses by Russian troops.

But in recent months, U.S. officials have increasingly subscribed to the Russian view that Arab militants have helped Chechen rebels with money and weapons, although the Americans say the guerrilla war still has its roots in Chechens' decades-old resentment of Soviet, and later Russian, dominance.

"Obviously there is still a strong internal impulse behind the Chechen insurgency," said a senior U.S. diplomat. "But it has become commingled with the broader international agenda of the Arab fighters."

Bush administration officials say the United States has helped cut off outside support of the conflict by routing the Taliban in Afghanistan, helping drive Islamic fighters from the nearby Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan and forcing Georgia to police the Pankisi Gorge on the Chechen border. After denying for years that the valley was a rebel sanctuary, Georgian officials now say that until last summer, it was home to 800 rebels, including 80 to 100 Arabs in a unit that received funds from al Qaeda.

Some terrorism experts say the West erred by dismissing Russia's claims for so long.

"Chechnya and the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia partially replaced Afghanistan as a center for terrorist training," said Rohan Gunaratna, a terrorism expert and the author of "Inside Al Qaeda." "The initial wave of terrorists who are now coming to Europe trained in Chechnya or Algeria," he said.

Col. Ilya Shabalkin, a spokesman for Russian forces in Chechnya, said Arabs still make up about one-fifth of Chechnya's roughly 1,000 active armed militants, who are increasingly confined to the republic's forests and mountains. "The Arabs are the specialists, they are the experts in mines and communications," Shabalkin said. He identified their leader as Abu Walid, a Saudi who showed up in Chechnya in the late 1990s.

The money, Russians say, comes from known terrorist groups such as al Qaeda and from some 40 organizations masquerading as charities in the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere. The flow of funds has diminished since U.S. and Russian intelligence began jointly clamping down on terrorist financing after the Sept. 11 attacks. Even so, the Russians say, $500,000 to $1 million a month still reaches Chechnya, delivered in small sums by couriers who travel Georgia's rugged mountain paths.

One source is a Saudi charity, al Haramain, according to Russia's Federal Security Service. In an internal memo provided by the agency, the FSB accused the charity of wiring $1 million to Chechen rebels in 1999 and of arranging to buy 500 heavy weapons for them from Taliban units.

The memo quotes what it calls messages exchanged between Arab commanders in Chechnya and al Haramain's director in Saudi Arabia. "Today, al Haramain has $50 million for the needs of the mujaheddin," one message from the charity read.

"The reason al Haramain provides assistance a little bit at a time is because it is afraid of the accusations it is assisting the jihad," said another.

Russia forced al Haramain to close its offices in Georgia and neighboring Azerbaijan in 2001, but its workers dispersed to similar groups that continue to work freely in Azerbaijan, Sergei Ignatchenko, the FSB spokesman, said in an interview.

A year ago, the United States and Saudi Arabia shut down al Haramain branches in Somalia and Bosnia after U.S. officials asserted those offices used charitable donations to finance terrorist activities.

Al Haramain says it distributed blankets, clothing and food in Chechnya but stopped its work there 14 months ago. "We do not have any relationship with any terrorist activities," said Shaykh Aqeel Aqeel, the charity's director. "We work under the supervision of the Saudi government."

Money From Bin Laden

Russian intelligence officials assert that Osama bin Laden donated at least $25 million and dispatched numerous fighters to Chechnya, including Ibn Khattab, a Saudi who led one of the best-trained contingents. The United States now agrees that Khattab had al Qaeda ties, and cited those links when it added three Chechen rebel units to its list of terrorist organizations earlier this year.

American officials said that several hundred Chechen fighters were trained at al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and that bin Laden sent "substantial amounts of money" to equip Chechen rebels in 1999. Some reports suggest al Qaeda urgently requested that Islamic organizations in Kuwait provide $2 million to the Chechen fighters as recently as last May, the U.S. government said in a five-page explanation of its decision to add Chechen groups to the list.

Gunaratna, the author, said Russia is exaggerating al Qaeda's contribution but not bin Laden's interest in the Chechen rebel cause. According to Gunaratna, the terrorist leader used a Persian Gulf bank to help finance the militants, at one point ordering an investigation into whether some Chechen leaders had siphoned off funds for themselves.

U.S. officials said they uncovered one source of support for Chechen rebels close to home: a Chicago-based charity called the Benevolence International Foundation, which investigators said funneled $300,000 to rebels in Chechnya and Bosnia. The foundation's director, Enaam Arnaout, denied any connections with al Qaeda.

But U.S. investigators said they found handwritten correspondence to and from bin Laden in the group's office in Bosnia. In one letter, according to court records, bin Laden declared: "The time has come for an attack on Russia."

Ayman Zawahiri, who is the United States' most-wanted terror fugitive after bin Laden, also saw potential in Chechnya as a sanctuary for his Egyptian militant followers before he merged his organization with al Qaeda in early 1998, Russian officials have said. Zawahiri's plans for Chechnya fell apart after Russian authorities arrested him in Dagestan in 1997, jailed him for six months and then freed him before learning his true identity, according to FSB spokesman Ignatchenko.

Arab influence in the first war between Chechen separatists and Russian soldiers, from 1994 to 1996, was minimal. Independence-minded Chechens considered themselves able to handle their own affairs, said Shamil Beno, who served as Chechnya's foreign minister in 1992 and as the republic's representative in Moscow in 2000-2001.

Dzhokhar Dudayev, Chechnya's president from 1991 until his death in 1996, was afraid of terrorist funds, Beno said in an interview: "He wanted checks done to see if it was terrorist money or not."

Those scruples faded in the mid-1990s, as more and more Arab missionaries and fighters flocked to the republic, proclaiming Islamic law, or sharia, and promoting Wahhabist traditions. Warlords had come to dominate Chechen society, and some of them embraced the fundamentalist cause.

The Arabs' goal went beyond preserving Chechnya's freedom: They wanted to merge Chechnya and Dagestan to create an Islamic state. Chechnya and Dagestan were poorer than the rest of Russia, and Dagestan, though home to a mosaic of ethnic groups, was predominantly Muslim. Its access to the Caspian Sea and its oil and gas reserves gave it a strategic importance to Russia that Chechnya did not share.

One of the new leaders was Khattab, who fought with bin Laden in Afghanistan as a teenager and who had publicly praised the al Qaeda leader as the "main commander of the mujaheddin worldwide." Khattab's position in the rebel movement was assured when he won over Shamil Basayev, Chechnya's best-known militant.

Planning a Takeover

Beno, who was once Basayev's close friend, said Basayev changed after he met Khattab in 1995. "He started moving from freedom for Chechnya to freedom for the whole Arab world. He changed from a Chechen patriot into an Islamic globalist," Beno said.

Basayev has told reporters he visited training camps in Afghanistan three times in the early 1990s to study the tactics of guerrilla warfare. In Chechnya, he and Khattab built their own training camp in the village of Serzhen-Yurt, complete with advanced communications equipment.

Their plans to take over Dagestan revolved partly around the village of Karamakhi, where Abdurrakhman, the Jordanian cleric, had begun preparing for jihad years earlier. By mid-1999, the village had been turned into a fortified base for rebels and religious fundamentalists.

Residents recall the sign that stood on the dirt road that led off the main highway: "This territory is under the jurisdiction of sharia law." A green Muslim flag was posted on a hill.

The hamlet's 14 policemen had been kicked out, and the Russian constitution declared invalid. Those caught drinking alcohol were beaten with sticks. Religious edicts were announced over a new broadcasting system, residents said.

Two rocket launchers, machine guns and explosives were hauled in and hidden. "There were so many Chechens and Arabs here we couldn't count them," said Makhdiyev, the imam. "They would come in carloads, 10 or 15 cars at a time."

Khattab visited the village, solidifying his ties by marrying a local 17-year-old girl. But the settlement remained divided between opponents and supporters of the Wahhabis. "Some people joined because they believed it was the right way," said Makhdiyev. "Others were just in dire straits. They went for these kopecks," or coins.

In August 1999, Chechen rebels launched incursions into Dagestan, but the operation failed miserably. Within a few weeks, Russian troops had driven hundreds of rebels under Khattab and Basayev back across the border into Chechnya. Russian troops announced the capture of Karamakhi in September.

That month, Moscow apartment houses were hit by a series of bombings that killed close to 300 people and were blamed by Russian authorities on Chechen rebels. Russian warplanes began hitting their positions and by October, 80,000 Russian troops were marching into Chechnya to reclaim the republic. Khattab was killed by Russian troops last year.

Villagers are still rebuilding what was destroyed by the Russian bombers. A new beige mosque is nearly finished, the ground around it a sea of mud.

A few rebel supporters, after being released from jail, asked their neighbors to forgive them and were accepted back into the village, said Makhdiyev.

"They say they were lost," he said. "They swore they would never do it again."

Osama Bin Laden to Reconcile Russia and USA
VASILY BUBNOV / Pravda 26apr03

Russia and USA must cooperate closer to fight terrorism

Osama bin Laden has reminded the world of his existence again. To be more precise, it was not him, but the Washington Post newspaper that reminded of the 9/11 prime suspect. The newspaper has recently published a long article that was called "How Jihad Made Its Way to Chechnya." The article particularly cited one of Bin Laden's messages that was meant for a Bosnia-based activist of Benevolence International Foundation. This "Islamic charity fund" actively sponsored terrorists, including Chechen terrorists too. So, Bin Laden wrote in a letter that it was time to attack Russia.

There are no doubts about the fact that Bin Laden hates Russia as much as he hates the United States. It is enough to remember that he used to wage war in Afghanistan against Soviet troops. Needless to mention that he could not but pay attention to Chechen terrorists that "fight" for the freedom of their "oppressed" fatherland. Russian authorities have already said that before on many occasions - Chechen terrorists cooperate with Al-Qaida very actively. Hundreds of terrorists have been trained on the bases of Bin Laden's terrorist group. When "free Ichkeria" (as Chechen terrorists call Chechnya) was virtually not controlled by Moscow, emissaries of terrorist groups felt free and easy in Chechnya. They did not even think that they had to hide and conceal their presence from anyone.

However, after military actions began in 1999, the West with the USA at the head did not listen much to Russian senior officials, who said that there were a lot of terrorists in Chechnya, including Al-Qaida terrorists. Properly speaking, the evidence of their presence and activities in the Chechen republic is still prejudiced, especially in the countries of Western Europe.

Anyway, all of these facts were known before. There is something else that is worth paying attention to. The article in the Washington Post appeared on a very good moment, from the point of view of the situation with Russian-American relations, which worsened on account of the Iraqi war. The partnership that has been formed between the two countries after September 11th, 2001 was based on the notion of the international terrorism that threatened everyone. It should be also mentioned here that the partnership between Russia and America was rather peculiar sometimes. The war in Iraq ruined the idea that it was possible to defeat the international terrorism with the help of joint efforts. This idea has been pushed back into the background. However, it does not at all mean that the idea is not actual anymore. It happens vice versa, actually.

One may say that Bin Laden and his messages can be good both to Moscow and Washington, for it might simplify the process of retrieving normal political relations between the two countries. Of course, Russia and America will always have their own interests in the international politics, and the countries will do their best to stand up for them. It is not ruled to that those interests might find themselves in the opposition to each other in the future. Obviously, Russia has fewer opportunities to stand up for its point of view in comparison with the USA. This will definitely not add more stability in the bilateral relations between Russia and the United States. Nevertheless, the two countries must cooperate with each other in order to destroy the global terrorist network, including the one in Chechnya. Otherwise, the national security of both Russia and the USA will suffer from huge damage. It would be a lot harder to handle such consequences alone.

Palin's AIP connected to terrorists
September 8, 2008, 2:39PM

http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/otispfudpucker/

AIP'S TERRORIST FRIENDS

Because John McCain has not learned how to 'watch the internet' or 'use the Google,' it has been left to the public to vet Sarah Palin for him. I was curious what shady types would attend separatist conventions, such as the one in Tennessee, where the AIP Vice Chairman Dexter Clark extolled the virtues of their candidate Sarah Palin. http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-brooks4-2008sep04,0,5675222.column I expected that hatred for the American Federal Government would bring white supremacists (as speculated in the Daily Kos: http://larry-madill.dailykos.com/ ) and small time individual hate criminals into their circus tent. But I did not expect AIP to link itself to a foreign terrorist group personally funded by Osama Bin Laden, that has been merging into Al Qaeda for years, is linked to 4 of the 9/11 hijackers, and other Al Qaeda attacks. That's right, the Palins are only 2 or 3 degrees removed from the man that McCain swears he would pursue to the gates of hell (Osama Bin Laden). Links below:

The LA Times broke the story that the AIP has a link to the Chechen separatists on its website. "The AIP's website also provides helpful links to other secessionist groups, including the Southern Independence Party of Tennessee (which boasts of going after "these Politically Correct Liberal Communist"), Ulster nationalists and Chechen separatists." http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-brooks4-2008sep04,0,5675222.column Remembering the Beslan school and hospital massacres, and Russian bus and tram bombings, I had to read that twice. I have now compiled an overview of the increasingly indistinguishable relationship between the AIP's Chechen friends and Al Qaeda:

The Al Qaeda/Chechen Separatist relationship has been evolving since the 1990s. The Bush Administration initially downplayed the Russian assertions that the Chechen terrorists were affiliated with Al Qaeda. However, President Bush later acknowledged Russia's claims, stating: "We do believe there's some al Qaeda folks in Chechnya." http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL 'Washington also called on Chechen separatists to "cut all contact with international terrorist groups."' http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL

'Some terrorism experts say the West erred by dismissing Russia's claims for so long', Rohan Gunaratna, the author of "Inside Al Qaeda" states, "The initial wave of terrorists who are now coming to Europe trained in Chechnya or Algeria".

http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm "According to the U.S. State Department, the Islamic International Peacekeeping Brigade (IIPB) is the primary channel for Islamic funding of the Chechen guerillas, in part through links to al-Qaeda-related financiers on the Arabian Peninsula." http://www.cfr.org/publications/9181/

It now appears that the Chechen separatists receive funding even more directly than via Al Qaeda channels, being personally funded by Osama Bin Laden himself. "Russia is exaggerating al Qaeda's contribution but not bin Laden's interest in the Chechen rebel cause. According to Gunaratna, the terrorist leader used a Persian Gulf bank to help finance the militants, at one point even ordering an investigation into whether some Chechen leaders had siphoned off funds for themselves." http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm

The central strategic importance to Al Qaeda of the Chechen separatists against the United States was explained by Bin Laden's #2 man, Ayman al-Zawahiri (who was himself captured and released in 1997 while trying to enter Chechnya): "This poses a direct threat to the United States....the only thing that will separate them from Afghanistan will be the neutral state of Turkmenistan. This will form a mujahid Islamic belt to the south of Russia...." resulting in "....fragmentation of the Russian Federation....will topple a basic ally of the United States in its battle against the Islamic jihadist reawakening." http://www.meforum.org/article/744

The 'chief ideologue of the separatists and a "terrorist"' was the former Chechen President Yandarbiyev (until he was blown up in Qatar). http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DD1F3AF937A25751C0A9629C8B63 "Yanderbiyev was not judged to be a terrorist by Russia alone - he was on the UN blacklist as well. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m_qn4158/is_20061121/ai_n16856084

Yanderbiyev was on the "United Nations list of groups and people with suspected links to Osama bin Laden's network, Al Qaeda." http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DD1F3AF937A25751C0A9629C8B63

The roles of Chechen separatist commanders and foreign Al Qaeda commanders stationed in Chechnya in terrorist attacks can be seen graphically in anti-terrorism expert Evan Kohlmann's chart (with dotted red boxes around their photos): http://www.globalterroralert.com/islamicarmycaucusas3.pdf

(Kohlman is a terrorism expert witness for the Feds, who has personally interviewed Osama Bin Laden [before 9/11], and has interviewed 500+ insurgents in Iraq.) The role of Chechen separatists in the journey of 4 of the 9/11 hijackers is detailed in 'How Chechnya Became a Breeding Ground for Terror,' by terrorism expert Lorenzo Vidino, in the Middle East Quarterly, 2005 http://www.meforum.org/article/744 'Islamist terrorists have co-opted the Chechen cause as part of the global jihad. Umar Ibn al-Khattab, a Saudi native who became the leader of the foreign mujahideen in Chechnya, said, "This is not just a Chechen matter...like Afghanistan."' http://www.meforum.org/article/744 A request from Ibn al-Khattab (Al Qaeda commander in Chechnya) to Al Qaeda operative Sakka on the Turkish border sent Sakka and his men to Afghanistan for combat training because "the Chechens needed trained fighters", where their training and ability to counterfeit passports came in handy. This re-direction of Al Qaeda resources sent four young Saudi students bound for Chechnya on "a path that was to end with the September 11 attacks on America in 2001. They were: Ahmed and Hamza al-Ghamdi who hijacked the plane that crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center; their companion Saeed al-Ghamdi whose plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field; and Nawaf al-Hamzi who died in the Pentagon crash." http://www.meforum.org/article/744 Russia corroborates this connection, insisting that "the Saudi-born commander who goes by the name Khattab, was sponsored by suspected terrorist mastermind

Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2001/11/22/MN85469.DTL "Al-Qaeda's involvement in Chechnya has grown steadily." Under paragraph, "Al-Qaeda Adopts the Chechen Cause":

http://www.meforum.org/article/744

The affiliation of Chechen separatists with Al Qaeda is reported to have been voluntary at first, but later was compulsory, according to one Chechen Imam, "Join us or we'll cut your head off." According to Gunaratna, the this Imam was originally part of a secular separatist movement, which was "recast" by Al Qaeda as part of an international jihad. http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/Jihad-In-Chechnya26apr03.htm

You can bet that McCain did not do his homework on this one. If a Democratic candidate, or their spouse, were a friend of a friend of Bin Laden, this election would be over!

From The Frontier Post news of Peshawar and Quetta (see how we are winning hearts and minds, the whole world knows)...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9/11 ringleaders in Pakistan?
http://www.thefrontierpost.com/News.aspx?ncat=ar&nid=470
Yousaf Alamgirian
Madam Hillary Rodham Clinton who happens to be the US Secretary of State these days, has very kindly announced during her recent visit to India that US officials firmly believe that al-Qaeda leaders who planned and carried out the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, are hiding in Pakistan near its border with Afghanistan. She shared this precious information with the world during her press conference in India. While disclosing the location of the ringleaders she said: “With respect to the location of those who were part of the planning and execution of the attack of 9/11 against our country, we firmly believe that a significant number of them are in the border area of Pakistan. Pakistani government has many a time categorically denied that no al-Qaeda ringleader including Osama bin Laden are hiding on its territory but it seems US officials have set their mind frame regarding their presence in Pakistani soil. Americans are not even interested to think beyond it.
They have thrown numerous drones inside Pakistani border but none have succeeded in hitting even Baitullah Mehsood and what to talk of hitting Osama bin laden whose exact location is yet to be established by Americans. For searching one person and few of his team members they have killed hundreds of innocent human beings in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Whereas the operation being undertaken by Pakistan Army against terrorists is targeted, meticulous and avoids collateral damage. Pakistan army is aware of the terrain and the techniques to handle the terrorists who have swiftly been eradicated form this soil. May be Americans know about Osama very well but still they want to continue their search for him in order to justify their presence in Afghanistan and the drone attacks in Pakistan.
Despite presence of American and NATO troops in Afghanistan and especially along with the Pak-Afghan border still they believe Osama bin laden and his core team has fled into Pakistan. Hillary Clinton also disclosed that they, the Americans, are actively looking for additional information that would lead them to Osama. God knows how many innocent lives have yet to be taken till the search is completed and they get hold of the 9/11 ringleaders. Killing innocent people of one region to secure the masses of other region is a unique phenomenon. Unfortunately America has always shown double standards and has failed to maintain justice and equity among the nations. If at one side US is considered to be a role model in protecting human rights yet on the other hand America is the one who crossed all limits to violate human rights in Iraq and Afghanistan. They invaded Iraq, destroyed its government, system, independence and every thing.
They even hanged Saddam Husain but never found any of chemical atomic weapons. Only chemical which Americans found from Iraq was Chemical Ali, the first cousin of Saddam. The same theory has been repeated in Afghanistan in vague of getting hold of Osama bin Laden. May be they have already killed him or it is yet to ascertain the den where those ringleaders are hiding. Osama bin laden was said to be the chronic patient who couldn’t survive without proper medical treatment. It is amazing how an old man can play a long series of hide and seek with professional American and NATO forces. Hillary also stated that Pakistan must dismantle terrorists infrastructure on its soil. Hillary’s statement is really a hilarious one as Pakistan for the last nine years is not playing ping pong with the terrorists.
Pakistan army is at proper war to eliminate terrorists from this soil. The valiant soldiers of Pakistan Army are injecting their fresh blood in war against terrorism and have written a golden history of valour, courage and sacrifices in defence of the motherland. Some how or the other America and its scapegoat Karzai-led Afghan government is very fond of involving Pakistan in each and every incident happening inside Afghanistan. Now the fresh allegation is pertaining to a US soldier being kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan. An American based news channel while doing an objective reporting has disclosed that Taliban may have taken the soldiers across the border to Pakistan. Its a matchless example of biased reporting by foreign media to malign Pakistan. If so ever it has happened, what for American and NATO forces are sitting along with Pak-Afghan border.
It highly speaks of inefficiency at the part of those forces. Up till now they should have obtained enough experience to fight against terrorism. To conceal their incapability they keep on blaming Pakistan for the acts Pakistan cannot even think about. Afghan national army is also not far behind in blaming Pakistan for supporting terrorism in order to hide their non-professional and ineffectiveness in fighting war on terror. A complete platoon of Afghan National Army had been searching the area but failed to get any clue of the missing soldier. So they abruptly changed their mind disclosing the soldier might have been moved to Pakistan.
May be its a planned effort to malign Pakistan and looking for an opportunity to chase him inside Pakistan’s territory which Pakistan will never permit them. The forces which are facing a complete failure in Afghanistan territory how can be successful in the terrain being more tough, complicated and unfamiliar to them. Pakistan is one of the most important allies of US in war against terrorism and has proved its worth by fighting terrorists ruthlessly. Till now the world, including America, should have recognised Pakistan’s sincere efforts instead of involving it in each and every affair.
They have failed to search Osama and his team so they thought they should be here inside, Pakistan. And now they have failed to search their soldier so he is also believed to be inside Pakistan. One should accept its failures instead of maligning others. A famous TV artist and an English Professor late Dildar Pervez Bhatti once said my wife used to blame me for the things for which I don’t even feel myself fit enough. So Americans while blaming Pakistan should at least see its capability to do the same. yousafalamgirian@gmail.com
Revenge of the ‘Shoe Bomber’
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB40001424052970203609204574317090690242698.html
By DEBRA BURLINGAME JULY 31, 2009
Last May at the National Archives, President Barack Obama warned that “more mistakes would occur” if Congress continued to politicize terrorist detention policy and the closure of Guantanamo Bay. “[I ]f we refuse to deal with those issues today,” he predicted, “then I guarantee you, they will be an albatross around our efforts to combat terrorism in the future.”
On June 17, at the Administrative Maximum (ADX) penitentiary in Florence, Colo., one of those albatrosses, inmate number 24079-038, began his day with a whole new range of possibilities. Eight days earlier, the U.S. Attorney’s office in Denver filed notice in federal court that the Special Administrative Measures (SAMs) which applied to that prisoner—Richard C. Reid, a.k.a. the “Shoe Bomber”—were being allowed to expire. SAMs are security directives, renewable yearly, issued by the attorney general when “there is a substantial risk that a prisoner’s communications, correspondence or contacts with persons could result in death or serious bodily injury” to others.
Reid was arrested in 2001 for attempting to blow up American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami with 197 passengers and crew on board. Why had Attorney General Eric Holder decided not to renew his security measures, kept in place since 2002?
According to court documents filed in a 2007 civil lawsuit against the government, Reid claimed that SAMs violated his First Amendment right of free speech and free exercise of religion. In a hand-written complaint, he asserted that he was being illegally prevented from performing daily “group prayers in a manner prescribed by my religion.” Yet the list of Reid’s potential fellow congregants at ADX Florence reads like a Who’s Who of al Qaeda’s most dangerous members: Ramzi Yousef and his three co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui; “Millennium bomber” Ahmed Ressam; “Dirty bomber” Jose Padilla; Wadih el-Hage, Osama Bin Laden’s personal secretary, convicted in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing that killed 247 people.
In December 2008, the Department of Justice filed a motion to dismiss Reid’s lawsuit. It cited the example of ADX inmate Ahmed Ajaj as an illustration of “the dangers inherent in permitting a group of inmates, of like mind in their opposition to the United States, to congregate for a prayer service conducted in a language not understood by most correctional officers.”
While imprisoned for passport fraud in 1992, Ajaj assisted in the plans to destroy the World Trade Center on Feb. 26, 1993, making phone calls to Ramzi Yousef and speaking in code to elude law enforcement monitoring. Ajaj tried to get his “training kit” to Yousef, which included videotapes and notes he had taken on bomb-making while attending a terrorist camp on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Reid’s own SAMs on correspondence had been tightened in 2006 after the shocking discovery that three of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers at ADX, not subject to security directives, had sent 90 letters to overseas terrorist networks, including those associated with the Madrid train bombing. The letters, exhorting jihad and praising Osama bin Laden as “my hero of this generation,” were printed in Arabic newspapers and brandished like trophies to recruit new members.
When setting restrictions on inmate religious practice, the Bureau of Prisons need only meet a reasonableness standard, a very low bar in the case of Muslim terrorists. Justice would easily have prevailed against Reid’s lawsuit; nevertheless it dropped the security measures on Reid after he missed 58 meals in a hunger strike that required medical intervention and forced feeding in April.
On July 6, Justice Department lawyers informed the court that Reid will be given a “new placement” in a “post-SAMs setting.” Whether that entails stepped down security in a different unit or transfer to a less secure facility, the Bureau of Prisons won’t say, and Justice refuses to comment.
Mr. Obama likes to observe that “no one has escaped from supermax,” but if Reid is moved from ADX Florence, he will be the first convicted terrorist to use the First Amendment to sue his way out.
What drove the Obama administration’s decision to cave in to Reid’s demands? The president after all has repeatedly pitched supermax and the federal prison system as a secure alternative to Guantanamo, citing the fact that it handles “all manner of violent and dangerous criminals.”. Yet the last thing he needs, as his administration engages in its hasty effort to shut Gitmo down by a fast-approaching deadline, is for lawyers and human-rights activists to use a hunger-striking, near-death prisoner to launch a propaganda campaign fashioned right out of the Gitmo detainees’ playbook. Lawyers who shamelessly compared Gitmo to Naziconcentration camps would think nothing of casting supermax as the next “symbol of America’s shame” and a “rallying cry for our enemies.”
From the outset of his administration, Mr. Obama has been trying to thread the needle between national security policy and his ideological affinity with civil liberties lawyers and human-rights activists, meeting with and consulting them prior to making detainee-related decisions. Though his executive order shutting Guantanamo closely followed the blueprint provided by Human Rights First, leaders of key organizations were stunned when he revealed in an awkward, off-the-record meeting the day before his public announcement at the National Archives that he planned to continue President George W. Bush’s policy of preventive detention.
Michael Ratner, whose human rights organization, the Center for Constitutional Rights, filed the first successful detainee lawsuit in 2002, called Mr. Obama’s proposed U.S. detention scheme a “road to perdition” and nothing more than a plan to “repackage Guantanamo.” Leaders of the so-called Gitmo bar appear poised to launch a flurry of legal challenges the moment the last departing detainee’s feet touch U.S. soil.
In January, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Colorado issued a statement saying that conditions at supermax are “simply another form of torture” worse than Gitmo which “make a mockery of ‘innocent until proven guilty.’” Last month, the ACLU filed a civil lawsuit mirroring Reid’s religious rights claim on behalf of two terrorism inmates held at the Communications Management Unit inside a medium security prison in Terre Haute, Ind.
One of those inmates is Enaam Arnaout, a Syrian-born U.S. citizen serving a 10-year sentence for diverting Muslim charity money to militant Islamic groups in Bosnia and Chechnya. The other, Randall Royer, is serving 20 years for his role recruiting young Muslims in the “Virginia Jihad Network,” a group that used paintball games in 2000-2001 to train for holy war.
Mr. Obama has repeatedly suggested that the security challenge of bringing more than 100 trained and dangerous terrorists onto U.S. soil can be solved by simply installing them in an impenetrable fortress. This view is either disingenuous or naïve. The militant Islamists at Guantanamo too dangerous to release believe that their resistance behind the wire is a continuation of holy war. There is every reason to believe they will continue their jihad once they have been transported to U.S. soil where certain federal judges have signaled a willingness to confer upon them even more rights. The position of civil rights activists with regard to these prisoners is plain. “If they cannot be convicted,” says ACLU lawyer Jameel Jaffer, “then you release them.”
Meanwhile, in order to appease political constituencies both here and abroad, the Obama administration is moving full steam ahead,operating on the false premise that giving more civil liberties to religious fanatics bent on destroying Western civilization will make a difference in the Muslim world. In a letter sent to his father as he began his hunger strike, Reid provided a preview of how he will exercise his newly enlarged free speech rights, calling Mr. Obama a “hypocrite” who is “no better than George Bush.” His lawsuit remains active while the Department of Justice works out a settlement that satisfies the man who declared, “I am at war with America.”
—Ms. Burlingame, a former attorney and a director of the National September 11 Memorial Foundation, is the sister of Charles F. “Chic” Burlingame III, the pilot of American Airlines Flight 77, which was crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
The following is a partial transcript from an interview Sibel gave to Brad Friedman, guest-hosting the Mike Malloy show (audio). (Source letsibeledmondsspeak.blogspot.com/)
Caller: ... What are Sibel's thoughts about 9/11 possibly being an inside job?
Sibel Edmonds: As I have done for the past 7 or 8 years, I have basically stuck with what I know, first-hand, directly, my own knowledge, based on my own experience, based on what I obtained, which is not a lot, but it is extremely important.
And to answer a question like "Was it an inside job?" would be, first of all, preposterous for me to make that call. But what I can tell you is, based on what we know already - and these are the confirmed cases, like Colleen Rowley - look at her and her case - and look at the Phoenix Memo with the other FBI agents in the Phoenix field office, and then look at FBI agent Wright in Chicago, look at that case...
And if you read James Bamford's latest book, what the NSA obtained from Yemen before September 11, because we were following two of these hijackers in Yemen... Well, if you put all those things, all this information that has come from various agencies, in one place, and you look at it, and you say "Wow!"
You know, it is very easy to write off things when you have one or two slip-ups, and you attribute certain things to bureaucratic bungling - but it goes beyond that... Now, what is that? As I said, I wont be able to answer the question, but what I can answer is, yes, we had this 911 Commission that was formed (laughs) and first we had Henry Kissinger appointed to be the Chairman, this tells you what kind of Commission they had in mind, which was going to be cosmetic. It was pretty obvious. Then we had the final Commission, with a bunch of people with conflicts of interest, and we didn't get anything.
As you see, people have been gagged, a lot of things have been classified... And you think 'Why would they go so far to cover up bureaucratic bungling?' Again, that doesn't mean that this was an inside job, but what it tells you is that there are a lot of things that we don't know, there are a lot of things that our government doesn’t want us to know.
I mean, the recent thing just came out a few days ago with the case against Saudi Arabia, with the 9/11 family members. Well yesterday it made it to the front page of the New York Times with Eric Lichtblau, OK. So now the Justice Department under Obama is saying 'No you can't get this information because we want to protect Saudi Arabia.' Well, protect them against what? So those are the questions that have not been answered. And those questions that have been answered, nothing has been done about it, and no explanation has been given to us. So we have all these issues, and there is no simple answer, but one simple answer is that, yes, we are facing a lot of cover-up. And I want to know why, and I'm sure you want to know why too.
Brad Friedman: Nah, I don't want to know (laughs). So it's fair to say in your case then that you don't necessarily have information that you haven’t been able to disclose that reveals that 9/11 was an inside job, you just have, like I do, concerns about the information that we have, the bad information that we have...
Sibel Edmonds: (interrupts) I have to jump in here and say that I have information about things that our government has lied to us about. I know. For example, to say that since the fall of the Soviet Union we ceased all of our intimate relationship with Bin Laden and the Taliban - those things can be proven as lies, very easily, based on the information they classified in my case, because we did carry very intimate relationship with these people, and it involves Central Asia, all the way up to September 11.
I know you are going to say 'Oh my God, we went there and bombed the medical factory in the 1990s during Clinton, we declared him Most Wanted' and what I'm telling you is, with those groups, we had operations in Central Asia, and that relationship - using them as we did during the Afghan and Soviet conflict - we used them all the way until September 11.
Brad Friedman: Are you able to speak in more detail about that material that was classified?
Sibel Edmonds: People have written about it, based on the interviews conducted, and based on other people talking about it. And you know what, it's not very difficult to put two and two together on this. There is so much information that of course our Mainstream Media has not reported, but there have been some good books written on the topic, and that is: What we have been doing, what we were doing in those years, all the way, all the way until that day of September 11, in Central Asia, in what they call East Turkistan where we are talking about the Uighurs, and with Bin Laden, via Turkey.
And these are the Turkish actors because Central Asian countries are Turkic-speaking, they have the same heritage as the Republic of Turkey, the share the same language, the same culture. And we, as a country, the United States, used Turkey, along with actors from Pakistan, and Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia to carry out a lot of operations.
The Russians have talked about it, because they have been screaming about it, again those things have not been reported, but what we have on that has been classified. They have been using 'sensitive diplomatic relations,' protecting Turkey, protecting Israel, protecting Pakistan, protecting Saudi Arabia...
Well, that does not say that 9/11 was an inside job, but that tells people, it would tell people, the information that they have gagged, they have classified, a lot of things that would maybe bring us closer to the answer, and why our government has been lying about it.
Bin Laden is not to be caught, because nobody wants to catch him. He is very useful "invisible" enemy. So  asking money for struggle with Bin Laden is pretty easy task.
"We need XXXXX billions to fight with Bin Laden!, he is pure evil!"
some time after:
"We need additional YYYY billions to fight with Bin Laden! He is too strong enemy!". And so on.
But it is not easy to check how money for struggling with Bin Laden were spent.
Very convenient.  Grin
Why would Bin Laden perform acts on 9/11 if he were American operative? It makes no sense to me.
Interesting news.  By "inside job," I assume you mean government involvement.  Is there any proof of Bush himself being involved?
