Twenty-one years ago, I graduated college, my father died and I was living in another state.

It seems like only yesterday that the Berlin Wall fell, that "Thriller" was playing on the radio and we got our news from people like Peter Jennings.

But twenty years have passed already and the life I had back then seems like it was only yesterday. I am in my forties now, no longer a young man, although my tastes in the joys in life are pretty much as they were when I was back in my twenties.

When another twenty years passes, I will be in my sixties and I still imagine I will treasure the same things I did then and now. The same when I am eighty.

Is this how old age happens?  We remain the same people we always were in our minds, while the world changes furiously about us, and no one even senses that things have changed until change has come and gone.
