Patriotism: What Does It Mean To You?

On this fourth of July weekend, I thought it best to examine what it means to have faith, love and devotion to one's country.

We all have deep sentiment for the places we were born, be they countries or states, but does that mean that the state itself is beyond reproach?

Our leaders, throughout all the generations, have sold us out to the corporations and their big business interests.  We have, in the past, fought wars for no other reason but to supply the defense industry with more dollars.  Women had virtually no rights until the 20th Century and blacks were denied civil rights until the 1960s

And even the founding fathers were no different, they kept slaves!  Many of them anyway.

So, let us remember the price we paid to become independent, yes, but let us all also remember that the fight for freedom continues everyday in America and that blind faith in anything or anyone is a bad idea.
