Bianca,

What don't you like about his first 100 days?  Be specific.

Ron Paul Warns Swine Flu Scare Will Be Used As Precedent For More Big Government

Repeat of 1976 fearmongering campaign in full swing

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
Tuesday, April 28, 2009

“Step back and think for a minute before rushing and panicking” is the message coming from Texas Congressman Ron Paul who has warned that the swine flu scare will once again be used as a precedent for big government intrusion.

“It makes me think back to 1976, the first year I served in the Congress,” Paul has said in a video update. “We had a vote on the swine flu. Back then there was panic, they said it was going to sweep the nation and they rapidly came up with some flu shots and the government was going to inoculate everybody and save the world from this disaster.”

“It turned out that our instincts were correct.” the Congressman, also a medical physician, commented. “Not only did we think that the government should be involved in making medical decisions… but the flu came, the flu went and one person died, except for those individuals that died from getting the flu vaccine.”

Earlier this week we reported on the events of 1976, highlighting the fact that this last significant outbreak of swine flu in the U.S. originated at the army base at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

President Gerald Ford and then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (a man who has long standing intimate ties with the big pharma companies that have and will reap millions in profits from these scares) instituted a mass nationwide vaccination program. More than 40 million people were vaccinated. However, the program was stopped short after over 500 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a severe paralyzing nerve disease, were reported. Officially 30 people died as a direct result of the vaccinations, though the real figure is generally thought to have been much higher.

At the time Congressman Ron Paul was one of only two representatives to vote down the vaccination program. His comments were recorded in the book Swine Flu Expose, by Eleanora I. McBean, Ph.D., N.D.

Paul described the move as “a shocking misuse of funds …and an evil political maneuver”, “blatant advertising efforts to panic the people into taking Swine Flu shots will fail.” Paul said.

Some of the fearmongering advertisement campaigns from 1976 are featured in the following video:

(Article continues below)

Ron Paul Warns Swine Flu Scare Will Be Used As Precedent For More Big Government obama 340x169

“Here we are once again, swine flu coming up and everybody is panicking.” Ron Paul says in his latest update.

“This is not to downplay the seriousness of it. Some people have died, some people might die, yet we’ve had no deaths in this country, there’s seven or eight cases up in New York, but none have even been hospitalised and yet it’s practically like we’ve been attacked by nuclear weapons.”

The Congressman put the current panic in perspective by pointing out that last year alone there were 13,000 cases of tuberculosis with the number of annual deaths last recorded in the hundreds.

Paul then opined on how the scare will once again be pounced upon to bolster and further empower big government. He referred to Janet Napolitano’s announcement Sunday that the Department of Homeland Security had started “passive surveillance protocols to screen people coming into the country.”

“How did the Department of Homeland Security get into the medical business? It’s just totally out of control,” Paul said, describing the situation as an open door invitation to allow the federal government to deal with medical problems.

The big question is ‘Does a bigger government always solve these problems?’ No, they usually make things much worse.

Bianca,

Instead of just attacking the personalities of the people who disagree with you, why don't you just answer the question, namely what specifically do you disagree with about Obama's first 100 days?

Or did you just accept Volitzer's reasons, which are apparently:

Quote
The bailouts, the swine-flu, doing the Agenda of the New World Order.

Obama isn't responsible for the swine flu, except for maybe in Alex Jones Bizarro world.  As for the agenda of the "New World Order," that is more conspiracy bs.

In your reply, you mentioned people having a lack of knowledge of modern history, well, this directly corresponds with the answer about the bailouts.

If you actually knew modern history as much as you claim to, you'd know that Herber Hoover allowed the banks to fail and cut back on spending during the Great Depression, and what did that do?

It made things worse.

It wasn't until Roosevelt got in there and initiated a massive public works project in 1933 that things finally began to improve (the worst years of the Depression were in the early 1930s).

When Roosevelt cut back on spending in 1937, the economy started to tailspin again.

When the private sector flounders, it is up to government to pick up the spending, which is what Obama has tried to do.

Now then, all this is a matter of history and public record.  If you really know history as much as you claim to, than this shouldn't be news to you.  So, I ask you again:  what specifically do you disagree with about Obama's policies during the first 100 days?

(And, no fair trying to help, Volitzer, we all know where your point of view is coming from, namely prisonplanet forum).

Yeah in Keira Kensington denial-land, if it aint on Oprah, Ellen, Tyra or American Idol it probably isn't important.

The Obama Deception is all based on documented facts.  Why don't you go confirm them for yourself ?

You could ask Byron as he is a journalist student by he is as bad as John Stewart as far as being enamored by Democrats, so maybe you had better not and research it for yourself.

That and it will be a good exercise for your anterior cingulate cortex.   Wink

I've posted the films, now all you have to do is confirm the information.   Smiley

I'm the one who is lazy?  I have asked you twice to answer the question, mainly what specifically you haven't liked about Obama's policies in the first 100 days, and all you have done is print a link to some article that stereotypes people in their twenties that you apparently think supports your point of view.

You have an irrational hatred of Obama.  There is no basis at all for it, that I can see, other than disliking the man personally (for whatever reason).

Thank goodness people like you are in the minority these days.

You're even worse than she is, Volitzer.  While you are busy always offering sexist answers to the women here that you are debating, you are just as drunk with the Alex Jones paranoia to even think for yourself. I have yet to see a single thing that you post here that didn't come from prisonplanet forum or some other right wing conspiracy site. Learn to think for yourself sometime, you might find it refreshing.

Keira,

I AM NOT IN THE MINORITY.

YOU are the one in LA-LA LAND!!

Obama has -- without a whiff of self-doubt -- committed America to $6.5 trillion in extra debt,

$65 billion for each one of his first 100 days,

and that's based on an impossibly rosy forecast of the economy.

No wonder congressional Democrats clamor to take over corporations, tax the air we breathe and set wages for everybody.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vol,

You would think if for no other reason than to avoid the “Katrina Effect” they would be hardening the borders and air travel from Mexico. If only for their own political preservation. They aren’t doing that.

I find that fact the most worrying of all.

What is their motivation for inaction? Is it, in fact, ignorance or something else.

Maybe they have found a way to get the virus to target bitter clingers?

Myself, I really tend to agree with the column below, after all this is part of the ALINSKI METHOD  that they
are employing, isn't it?

A pandemic of panic -- are we dead yet?

By Wesley Pruden
Tuesday, April 28, 2009
The Washington Times

We were all supposed to be in the graveyard by now, done in by AIDS, SARS, bird flu, poisoned peanut butter, Hong Kong flu, killer tomatoes, global warming and strangulation by kudzu. But here we are, proof that there really is life after death.

Now we learn that we might freeze before the pigs get us. (The chickens failed.) NASA scientists have observed that the solar wind is the weakest since we began keeping such records, that the magnetic axis of the sun is tilted to an unusual degree, and Ol' Sol is the quietest he has been in a century. A chill, say the solar scientists, may be on the way. (Or not.) Worse, says one of them, this could compel reappraisal of the science of global warning. Try as he might, poor old Al Gore just can't keep the cosmos in line.

But this week Ol' Sol has been put in the shade by a new panic du jour. The cable-TV networks and the Internet are bubbling with sunspots, even if the sun isn't. Sample these latest headlines from the Drudge Report: "Two flu cases confirmed in Scotland. Has globalization made us more catastrophe-prone? Swine flu sweeps the globe. Swine flu closes football stadiums. The world must work together against this threat."

We haven't seen a panic quite like this one since the last one. SARS was once thought to be the ultimate panic, though the longest running panic was the AIDS scare, when big media set out to convince us that "now we are all at risk." SARS was never a threat in the United States, and worth the P-word only in China and even there a risk confined mostly to people who sleep with their chickens. You can step in all manner of unpleasant things in a chicken house. AIDS continues to be a succession of personal tragedies, but it has lost its power to terrorize continents. Worse, it lost its media cachet. Besides, nobody at the New York Times or at CNN wants to credit George W. Bush with anything good, or even acknowledge how he has become a hero in Africa for the American campaign against AIDS in Africa that has saved millions of lives.

But here we go again. The World Health Organization is heroically feeding the hysteria with the warning on front pages across the globe and trumpeted by hundreds of television talking heads: "The World Health Organization has warned that the [swine flu] virus has the potential to become a pandemic." The words "flu" and "pandemic" are such powerful scare words that almost nobody notices the accompanying weasel words "may," "could," "might," "potentially" and "possibly" that would stand out in bright red and green neon to the skeptical eye of a wizened old city editor. Alas, most of the wizened old city editors really are in the graveyard, having succumbed more to world-weariness than to fashionable diseases. The director of the World Influenza Center in London says of the outbreak, such as it is so far: "It's difficult to look on the bright side."

No, it's actually not difficult. About 2,000 persons in Mexico are down with flu, and about 150 have died. That's a mortality rate of about 7 percent. Sad, even tragic, but not exactly the most lethal flu virus we've ever seen. There's no mortality rate in the United States because no one has died. Only a few, very few, cases have been reported, and nearly all are described as "mild." You have to give the medical bureaucrats and the media credit for chutzpah to think they can keep such thin soup on the panic menu.

There are no firm estimates or even hopeful guesses of how many Americans are likely to contract flu this spring, but fortunately the ratio of panic to reality is not governed by facts. In the early hours of counting, barely 50 cases had been reported in the United States, and only two in Britain - that's 2, not 2,000 or even 200. About 300,000 to 500,000 cases of flu are reported every year in the United States, where 10 percent to 20 percent of the population comes down with the sore throat, coughing and achy bones of flu. Of those, 30,000 to 40,000 die. What we have so far in the United States is a 50-case panic, caused by a remarkably mild variant of the flu.

The medical researchers say it might mutate. Or it might not. If it does, it might, possibly, maybe, potentially be the worst killer since the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. Or it might not. Researchers are working on the vaccine, and the media is working on the panic.

We may not get a vaccine, but soon there won't be a dry pair of pants on six continents.

Keira,

I am just baffled at the lack of logic here.  Earlier in this thread, I posted a poll that stated that 69% of the American people approve of the job he is doing.  Other polls released today and in the last few weeks show the same thing.  That makes you in the minority.

Deny those numbers and you are the one in La-La Land.

And Bush turned a surplus into a 36.3 trillion dollar deficit.  What's your point?  My generation is the one that will have to pay it.  I don't give a flying fig, I would rather have national health care and a government willing to spend to improve the economy, rather than have one that made no attempt and let the U.S. spiral into an even deeper Depression.

You're defending the corporations, the same ones that pay their CEOs gross incomes while moving their companies overseas and lay off American workers?  What do you have agains setting wages for everyone?  If the Republicans had their way, there wouldn't be any minimum wage, Social Security, Medicare, unions or unemployment benefits.  I am not crazy about the Democrats all the time, but they're better than the Republicans, who just support the rich.
