There is a line that most human beings have in them that they do not cross.

And yet, in these ever darkening times, it seems that more people are crossing it.

What drives one to kill?

Does a person have the right to take a human life?

Is it wrong to value human life as much as we do when the lives of animals and other creatures are apparently lesser commodities?

What would drive you to murder..?

Offhand, I'd say madness!  Whether the temporary kind or the permanent kind. Insanity would have to be one of the ingredients.

Desire or Fear..............

Weakness is obvious when human beings murder one another over worldly things.

Madness, fear, anger, desire…all of these things have a common theme. They all manifest as voices within our minds. There is a book titled, “The Voice of Knowledge”, by Don Miguel Ruiz that discusses this ‘voice’. If you have ever been angry, you will recognize its influence for the ‘voice’ is interested in generating emotions (e.g. someone says something that upsets you, and the more you replay the event in your mind, the angrier you become. Your 'voice' supports your feelings of being wronged, and this helps the anger to increase).

Consider the possibility that all human beings are infected with the ‘voice’, and that it lives on the emotions it is able to generate. Stilling this ‘voice’, or in other words, quieting your mind, is a big step towards awakening. Of course, this is the last thing that the ‘voice’ wants, for when we awaken, the voice begins to loose its hold. It fights against this tooth and nail.

In some humans, the ‘voice’ has such a place of dominance and is so in control of the human ‘emotional food source’, that the individual has relinquished total control to the ‘voice’ and has no idea that it is being used. The illusion that the ‘voice’ is that individual is complete.

The ‘voice’ in your head is not ‘YOU’. You can control this voice through meditation but mainly through recognizing its existence. If your voice needs emotional food, feed it ‘love’.

Many a person has heard that voice in one's head, and given into it.  From whom does the voice emanate from?  I have a hint, he has horns, a tail and brandishes a pitch fork - traditionally, anyway.

There is another story regarding the origin of the voices. A very long time ago, possibly in Atlantis or even before (Mu?), there were very powerful sorcerers whose whole lives were spent in the pursuit of personal power. They explored and defined the dimensions that exist within the same space as our own. They also explored the cyclic period that exists below ours. Within this realm lived beings that held great powers, but they could not exist in this cycle without help from the sorcerers. The sorcerers desperately wanted access to the power these beings possessed and so they made a pack with them.

These beings from the cycle below feed on emotions, and of course human beings, being the emotional creatures that we are, were an unlimited source of food. To the sorcerers, this was a perfect match, so they opened a portal into our cycle for these beings to pass through. In exchange for their knowledge and power, humans were ‘infected’ by these beings, and still are to this day.

This story comes from the Toltec, but Thoth also references the same type of story. In Thoth’s story, the beings were manifested into the physical in the same manner (by sorcerers seeking personal power), but the portal that had been opened was closed by the forces of good, although not all of the entities were discovered and removed.

At one point, human beings were as gods, but we fell from grace. This story is repeated in many different religions and spiritual beliefs. For some reason, I have always felt the above stories were part of our fall. Fortunately, the veil that hides so many secrets from human beings is being lifted, and we are awakening into our power again. We will again recognize that love is the ultimate power in the universe, and through this awakening, we will become what we were destine for.

Man's basic nature is to do EVIL
It is a constant war within us to even do good. No matter how one argues the point, our history tells a different story.

All,

Another perspective from the Cherokee Nation -

A Grandfather from the Cherokee Nation was talking with his grandson.

"A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.

"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves."

"One wolf is evil and ugly: He is anger, envy, war, greed, self-pity, sorrow, regret, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, selfishness and arrogance."

"The other wolf is beautiful and good: He is friendly, joyful, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, justice, fairness, empathy, generosity, true, compassion, gratitude, and deep VISION."

"This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other human as well."

The grandson paused in deep reflection because of what his grandfather had just said. Then he finally cried out; "Oyee! Grandfather, which wolf will win?"

The elder Cherokee replied, "The wolf that you feed."

Arcaneknight,

I do not believe that the human nature is basically evil. As the above story relates, we are both, and I will add we are neither. Good and Bad are illusionary tools of the physical existance, but since we are in the physical and have not removed all of the veils hiding the truth, it is up to us which tool we choose to use.

I actually don't believe that.  Good and evil are both very tangible things and they do tend to do battle within an individual's very existence. And yet, we are products of our environment, with both good and bad people passing their particular values onto their offspring.

Baphomet,

The dualistic nature of the universe has been called an illusion by those who have become enlightened. They tell us that ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ are but the same thing, and the illusion of their dualistic nature is to allow us to development our discernment while we exist in the physical. Physics also tells us that what we perceive as “tangible”, (e.g. hitting a baseball with a bat) is also but an illusion. The bat never touches the ball, and in fact, the bat, the ball, you and I, and everything else in the physical existence are but energy. Energy ‘is’, it is not ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

In reference to being products of our environment, there is another term called ‘social conditioning’ that describes how we acquire certain beliefs, views of the world, etc., and this social conditioning forms our view of existence, our "reality". Social conditioning is also instrumental in how we view ourselves, but we can move beyond this view and build our lives on truth and not the illusions we were taught. The process of awakening begins when we start to see through the illusions we have been taught. There is a book that explains this very well, and it is titled, “The Mastery of Love”, by Don Miguel Ruiz.

One more thing that can drive a man to murder is spite.......
So few of us haven't experienced it but I have seen this with my own eyes and it's not pretty.
