A “Little” Goes a Long Way

by Carrie Noble
POSTED: March 4, 2009
The Muncy Luminary

Once there was a university professor whose passion for unraveling ancient mysteries sent him to the far corners of the world. This description may call to mind the fictional Indiana Jones, but it also fits modern-day adventurer and scholar Dr. Gregory L. Little-a former pupil of Ashkar Elementary and Hughesville High School.

Although Little says that he was a "terrible student" during his high school days, he has managed to rack up an impressive list of achievements in the years since his 1967 graduation. His most recent claim to fame is his new book, The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Native American Mounds and Earthworks. The volume contains "descriptions of over 1000 ancient Indian sites." One of the seven Pennsylvania sites mentioned in the book is the Brock Mound, located near Halls Station.

How did a highly trained psychologist and counselor become so enamored of Native American cultures that he'd write several books on the subject? "Other than a few classes in college, my initial involvement in archaeology is dated to 1980, while writing what became my first book, titled The Archetype Experience. It triggered an intense interest in Native American beliefs. Later, an Aunt in Muncy told me that I was a direct descendant of a Seneca on my Grandfather's (Walter Little, of Muncy) side. As my time permitted I wrote books and many articles about Native American sites," Little says.

Little has written or co-authored over 40 books and countless articles, but he has not spent his life tethered to a keyboard. Over the years, he has taught at several universities, worked on a secret Navy research project, directed substance abuse treatment programs for prisons, and developed world-renowned criminal justice programs. His more unusual achievements include extensive underwater archaeological exploration and documentary film making.

Little has been featured on The History Channel, National Geographic Channel, Discovery, MSNBC, The Learning Channel, and Sci-Fi. The subjects of his works have been as diverse as his life experiences, ranging from ancient history to UFOs and the paranormal. Little's wife of 29 years, Dr. Lora Little, is his partner in both his archaeological and documentary work.

This June and July, the Littles will appear in two episodes of a new History Channel series entitled "History Quest." The subjects of the programs are the Bermuda Triangle and Atlantis. Greg's father, Paul, a Muncy High School graduate, may be seen in the June episode.

"I have several aunts and uncles and many, many, cousins in Hughesville, Muncy, and the surrounding area. My father, Paul Little is 83, and is living in Covington, TN. He was a Muncy graduate and was on the wrestling team. My brother Gerry taught at Hughesville. My grandparents were Walter Little of Muncy and Murray and Marie McBride of Hughesville," Little says.

Now a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, Little fondly recalls playing youth sports in the Hughesville area. "I played basketball and football and baseball in the American Legion and the West Branch semi-pro league for both Hughesville and Picture Rocks. I played countless times against (future pro baseball player) Eddie Ott, which is a huge memory for me. I was a pitcher and he was the one hitter who constantly murdered my pitches."

The mysteries of the perfect pitch may have stumped him in his school days, but Dr. Little seems determined not to let the archaeological riddles of our time elude him-even if he has to go to the ends of the earth.

One needs Armchair- Archaeologists to direct the scuba diving" Go-Getters " like the G.LITTLE-Family
Maybe the HISTORY- CHANNEL is not intrested in Armchair Archaeologist who can debuke their theories !

HOW they ever think to find " Atlantis " in America is a Mystery to me !
Ancient Egyptians called ARABY as Atlantis so Atlantis in America is a ' GEORGEOUS"story - of - SPAIN" !

The 3 -  RULES of THUMB for locating the " Original" Atlantis debukes any other satlantis theory @!
Read for the " BlueHue " theory the Bottom line of THIS Posting.

Monique,

I'm sure Greg will be here as soon as he can to tell us all about it.

Setting up what he just did takes time, believe me, and a lot of work.

Contrary to the above disparaging post (ONE OF MANY) by the (green with envy) IGNORANT resident TROLL,
he had to have some pretty good selling points, or they wouldn't have filmed TWO episodes about his discoveries which, by the way, he tells about in his last posts, if I am not mistaken.  HERE:

Greg and Lora Little are not ARMCHAIR atlantologist, like the TROLL - they get their scuba gear on and DIVE.  If they thought they would find something on land, they'd surely

Smiley  My favorite TV channel, featuring two of my favorite AO posters?  Well I know what I'll be watching this summer!  Of course Bianca is my favorite AO poster, LOL.  Greg graduated in 1967?  I graduated in 1966. He looks darn good for his age, LOL.   Wink

You usually get stuck inland, don't you?  You poor thing.....

Time to comeback to sunny, HOT Florida!!!  It'd be so great to get together with you and Cheryl!

Smiley  I'll leave the scuba diving to Greg, LOL.  But my son Dillon was born in Fr. Lauderdale, and Cheryl's sister lives in Tampa and constantly offers to send us plane tickets.  So it's only a matter of time.

So perhaps Greg is picking up where another Floridian hero of mine left off?  I'm refering to the late Charles Berlitz of course.  Cool

Hello, it's been awhile. For a quick update, we have recently made 3 documentaries with 2 Canadian tv networks, one the International History Channel and the other 2 with Vision tv. Those are on Atlantis, Cayce's 1940 prediction, and one on underwater cities for the series "Go Deep." Those 3 combined with the other 2 that will be on the History Channel this summer is a lot. The past year I completed a massive book that I have long been working on, "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Native American Mounds and Earthworks." It is a detailed listing of mound sites and took a lot of time. But we also made several long expeditions. At Bimini we found the most definitive evidence ever found that the stone structure there is manmade. That will show on the fourth episode of a new series on History, with their premiere episode on the Bermuda Triangle and some of our finds there. We return to Andros in early April (09) to shoot a short piece for a completely different series and have agreed to do another show with The National Geographic Channel sometime in the next 2 months, all in the Bahamas. There also are tentative plans for more documentaries on Cayce's 3 Hall of Records, mounds, and several more Bermuda Triangle shows as we keep finding "planes" and other "things" that were reported lost there. Yes, I do think that Bimini was a part of Atlantis as was Andros and the Great Bahama Bank and Cuba, etc. The main evidence of Atlantis (to me) is at the 90-foot level on an ancient shoreline...about 5 miles off Bimini. Over the past year the ARE has done side-scan sonar of the entire area as well as using an rov to get video...there is a lot of video. None of that has been shown. When the weather is right we'll do a close inspection of it.

In addition, a new ARE Press imprint called 4th Dimension Press, is releasing a new book by Andrew Collins probably in June. It is called "Beneath the Pyramids" and will show, indeed, things beneath Giza. It is a stunning stunning discovery that will be big news.

With respect to several questions, we got our own boat to explore and that has simply led us to looking carefully around in the Bahamas, especially on the Great Bahama Bank. Our plan is to search it thoroughly. On our last trip we found, on the last day, a spot that appears to be a collapsed stone building. The site is actually surrounded by several crashed planes. It is all incredible really. It is about 65 miles south of Bimini in the middle of nothing but a lot of shallow water.

By the way, I ran our boat into the middle of AUTEC's harbor at night...by mistake. Now that was interesting and a story not likely to see the light of day. The 2 shows this summer, which I think air in June, will show how harrowing some of that expedition really was. The production team that went along had never done anything like it. It was scary because it was very windy and there were some big waves...and we have a small boat.

Best,
Greg Little

Bravo Drs. Well done.  I know it sends tingles up MY spine just thinking about the things you've seen and discovered, and I can hardly wait to see the documentaries.  I know there are many others here at AO that feel the same way.  Great to hear Andrew Collins has another book coming out as well.  Although it isn't as exciting for us armchair observers, we do like to follow along with all the latest finds and developments.  We're so glad (and proud) that you are members of our forum.  Congratulations on your many accomplishments.

Care to say anything more about this, such as, it confirms Cayce's Hall of Records or that it has some Atlantean origin?

I'd like to say more about it, but simply can't. June isn't too far away. What Andrew did is absolutely amazing and it's all in his book. It'll wind up on tv too.
