Is it Wrong to Gloat Over the 2008 Election?
I don't think so! You are going to hear a lot of arguments from conservatives that it is wrong to gloat over their electoral defeat in the election in the spirit of bi-partisanship, but I see it a different way.
You see, just about everything bad that has happened in this country in the last eight years has been a direct result of conservative rule and they have been roundly repudiated. They not only got blown out in this election, but the last election, and their prospects aren't getting any better either.
Obama just got 66 million votes, more than any candidate in history. He not only beat McCain he doubled him in the electoral college and beat him by nine million votes. This is despite the typical problems with voter machines, long lines and GOP legal challenges to get people to stop voting. He got four million more votes than Bush in 2004 and he got twelve million more votes than that great conservative icon, Ronald Reagan during his biggest electoral win, in 1984. True, population is bigger in the U.S. now than it was in 1984, but turnout was also record setting. They DIDN'T turn out for McCain, they turned out in HUGE numbers for Obama.
Next, we are already hearing from pundits that this is still a "center-right" country and that Obama has to govern from the middle. Bull! Polls show that the majority of voters support the Democrats on most social and economic issues, as well as withdrawing from Iraq and healthcare for all Americans.
And the only thing that the Repugs can offer in return is their mantra on more tax cuts (giving the majority to the rich, not the Middle Class), allowing companies to move jobs overseas, deregulation (which allowed all these bad loans and consequentially, so many banks to fail), and attacks on women's rights. They have also stood in the way of things like health care for all Americans (even in some cases, just for children), as well as stem cell research and cleaning up global warming.
And look at the top candidates for the GOP in 2012:
Sarah Palin
Mitt Romney
Mike Huckabee
So gloat, these guys have earned every bit of it.

f****n' hey, it's okay to gloat! That fat slob Limbaugh said that when we win an election then we can come and gloat and put all the liberal/Socialist people we want in government. Well, we have now smoked them in two of them in a row so they can feel free to shut up!

It might be satisfying to gloat, we all know that Bush gave us a miserable eight years and those who supported him bear much of the blame. So, too, should they share every bit in the defeat of the Republican Party.
However, gloating also goes against the spirit of Barack Obamas campaign, mainly that all people are welcome to bring about this change that he is supporting, also that we need not vilify our opponents in order to win.

I don't understand it, that was a butt-kicking of historic proportions. Don't the American people like us in the Republican Party anymore? If so, why not?

I don't feel like gloating, but I do feel a great sense of relief. It's like America has finally turned a corner and is back on track now, but we still have a tough row to hoe.
What bothers me most now is this lame duck administration. I'm scared Bush will pull more nefarious stunts these last two months because he really has nothing to lose. He has no legacy to defend. Publishers are not even interested in his memoirs!

I sure feel like gloating, but there isn't time! Look at the mess Bush has left us: two wars, Hurricane Katrina, the biggest terrorist attack on American soil, a record deficit, a collapsed economy, foreclosures throught the roof, and we were hated all over the world!
Come on, conservatives, come defend that record!
Barack Obama and the new Democratic Congress have a lot of work today, and people will bre remembering the failure of the conservatives for years.

This is a total travesty! And I have to confess, I didn't see it coming at all, I was so certain that we were going to win. America, what's wrong with you?? Don't you remember the Reagan and Bush administrations..?
And, to turn your back on proven mavericks like John McCain and Sarah Palin, who championed hard-working people like Joe the Plummer. Well, I don't know quite what to make of that.
Perhaps in 2012 you'll learn to appreciate us again. I'm still trying to figure out what happened here...

Hi Lars,
I'm not surprised that you and all the other right-wingers are clueless. The truth is that Americans realized that the Republican Party was out of touch and that the best hope for our country was the Obama-Biden ticket.

Don't gloat too hard yet Obamanoids the 'Birth-Certificate' issue is still pending before the Supreme Court.
We still may get insane-McCain as President yet God help us all.
At best we can get 4 years of grid-lock.

What if that Obama fella decides to put all the people that didn't vote for him in Fema camps like Volitzer always says? What if he decides to imprison Rush Limbaugh? Who will speak for America then? America, I am totally confused and bewildered by you. I see that Obama fella putting the lot of us in FEMA camps now - Volitzer, me, Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly. Truly a shame this is...

I blame Palin for this. The American public is more than willing to elect a hillbilly to office, but you can't be that blatant that you are a no-nothing hick And to think! She is already the frontrunner for us for 2012 as well, that means another election we'll probably have to kiss off as well. The peons of the party have found their saint and they're sticking with her.

Is it okay to gloat?? It would be damn criminal not to! Man, that was the biggest electoral blowout of my lifetime. We have cleaned house on all the right wing religious zealots and finally put this country back in the right track again! And McSame won't be able to blow the hell out of Iran like he always wanted to. And the best part? The dumb ass conservatives are so shocked by this ass-whooping that they don't know what to do! It doesn't get any better than this.
