Halloween was a foreign concept in Germany in the mid-1990s. Now, though, it generates more cash than any other holiday in Germany but for Christmas and Easter.

Some 4,600 tons of pumpkins were sold in Germany in 2007. The holiday was introduced to Germany by a marketing guru working for the German toy industry.

Especially children have fallen in love with the holiday, which was imported from the United States, which imported its predecessor -- All Hallow's Eve -- from Ireland.

The Evangelical Church in Germany is not amused by the success of Halloween in Germany. After all, it falls on Reformation Day.
