Ural Archeologists Fear to Tell Journalists About Their Finds 6.10.2008

Ural archeologists believe that a special scientific program should be established for research of the Sverdlovsk north.

According to Scientific Deputy Director of History and Archeology Institute, Ural RAS, Aleksandr Shorin, today there are more than 3000 archeological monuments in Sverdlovsk Region. “We cannot dig out everything, and we do not even aim to. I can say that some time ago we discovered tumuli five to six meters high. Yet, I am not going to disclose where they are situated, because an unhealthy interest to them has already been revealed” - the scientist pointed out.

Meanwhile the research works are often performed on a contractual basis, i.e. the archeologists go and examine a future building site for presence of some historical monuments, to prevent them from being ruined by builders.
