Hi Bianca,

You made yourself perfectly clear the first time. Long URLs and double line URLs are both handled in the same way:   right click on the address, hit "select all," right click again and hit "copy," then paste within the post.

It's important to get into the habit of "right-clicking," but you also have to make certain that each time you're doing that, it's atop the URL address, not any other part of the text. Right-clicking in any other part of the reply form will undo what you've done.

With practice, you'll get the hang of it.  You've actually caught onto most of this pretty quickly.

Elric:

Thank you, but I think we're not on the same "page".

I'm talking about step #6: "......dragging your cursor across the URL address"

I find it impossible to do that successfully on a TWO row address.

Hugs,

Hi Bianca,

If you don't mind my intruding, I think you should forget the part that suggests you drag your cursor or mouse over the URL address.

The best way is to right click on the URL address, hit "select all," then "copy."

You get the whole address at once and there aren't any of the problems associated with the other method.

Hi, Europa:

I can't wait to try that.  Dragging the cursor over the URL is a royal pain!  So finicky

and hard to do on a two-row URL.  The least hesitation on the "drag" botches the

whole thing.

Thank you and hugs,

Elric or Europa:

During one of my searches today I ran into an interesting article about the Piri Reis Map.

Not being sure where to put it, I stuck it under MIDDLE EAST:PAST & PRESENT (given the

origin of the author).  Please transfer it to a more appropriate section.

Thank you and hugs,

Thanks for putting my Piri Reis thread in the right post, Europa!

Now, what I really would like is:  Please help me get my own AVATAR!!!

Hi Bianca,

Adding an avatar is fairly easy.

First, go into "Profile", then "Profile Information" (under "modify"), and then either pick an avatar from our avatar gallery.

Or add the website address of a picture you like into the section, "I have my own pic."  This is done in the same way as when you post pictures on the website.

Pictures you have on your own computer that you might want to show here, or use as an avatar are done in a more complicated way (involving using a web hosting site), but I won't get into that unless you're interested.

Let us know if you have any problems.

I have one more problem:

The last two pictures I tried to post were way too large.  Now, both could have been scaled DOWN.

How do I do that?

Thank you,

Hi Bianca,

I don't think we can scale down pictures here.  The best solution to that is to check the size of pictures before posting them.  Generally, I try to find pictures of 100k or less.  Anything bigger than that, and it blows up big on the screen, and you have to scroll back and forth just to see the entire canvas.

Posting pictures from the Internet (from Elric):

The steps are as follows:

1. Right click on the picture.

2. A menu pops up, and the bottom choice is one that says, "properties."  You'll want to select that.

3. In the Properties Box that pops up afterwards, in the middle of the box is an item that says Address (URL).

4. Right Click on that and another menu box pops up.  Hit "select all."  The URL address should now be higlighted, then hit "okay."

5. Right click yet another time and this time, choose, "copy," once again, hit "okay."

6.  Next, paste the URL address in your post and highlight it.  This is done by dragging your cursor across the URL address.

7. Above the smiley icons are an array of buttons. Click on the second one on the bottom row, which looks like a framed picture, in blue and green.

URL tags (IMG) should now surround the URL address.

8.  Hit, "post," at the bottom of your post.

Posting Pictures from your computer (from Mark):

Here is a link to that picture-hosting site. http://photobucket.com/

Set up an account,it's free.

1. Then when you see a pic on the net you like ,right-click on it and Save it to a folder on your comp.

2. Login to your account at photobucket and click on one of the 3 'Browse' buttons to search and choose a pic you want to Upload from your computer to the site.

3. With the pic now on the site ,under it you will see 3 'web addresses' -the one you want is the "URL Link". Left-click on the address so that it is highlighted, then right-click - ,on the menu that pops up click 'Copy'.  That address is now magically stored away until you are ready to use it.

4. Now on the post that you are writing on AO ,you want a pic in it so you click the 'Insert Image' button that is the one on the bottom row of text altering buttons above the text box ,- second from left.

5. You will see this pop up in the text box "img/img ", but in brackets. The cursor will be flashing in between the two 'img's' in brackets. right-click on the cursor in between the two img's and in the menu that pops up,click "Paste" .

6. All Done. Now Post or Preview your entry to see the pic displayed in all it's glory.

Europa,

Since we are on this again, please tell how to post pics where there is no icon.

What do you do after you drag the cursor across the URL?

That's all I know how to do, but I'd like to post some pictures in my e-mails.
