Dobbs: A call to the faithful
POSTED: 9:37 a.m. EDT, May 9, 2007
By Lou Dobbs
CNN

Editor's Note: Lou Dobbs' commentary appears weekly on CNN.com.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- The separation of church and state in this country is narrowing. And it is the church, not the state that is encroaching. Our Constitution protects religion from the intrusion or coercion of the state. But we have precious little protection against the political adventurism of all manner of churches and religious organizations.

The leadership of the Catholic Church and many Protestant churches, as well as Jewish and even Muslim religious organizations, are driving that political adventurism as those leaders conflate religion and politics. And while there is a narrowing of the separation between church and state, there is a widening schism between the leadership of churches and religious organizations and their followers and members.

Conservative evangelical leader James Dobson recently said actor and former Sen. Fred Thompson wasn't Christian enough to be president. He instead chose to commend Newt Gingrich, who has been married three times and recently admitted to an extramarital affair. Five evangelical Christian leaders signed the "Land Letter" to President Bush in 2002 affirming a Christian theological basis to invade Iraq.

This week the head of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, Cardinal Roger Mahoney, basically threatened his faithful with denial of heaven if they don't support amnesty for illegal aliens. The good Cardinal said: "Anything that tears down one group of people or one person, anything that is a negative in our community, disqualifies us from being part of the eternal city."

The nation's religious leaders seem hell-bent on ignoring the separation of church and state when it comes to the politically charged issue of illegal immigration. A new coalition called Christians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform Wednesday will begin lobbying lawmakers with a new advertising and direct mail campaign on behalf of amnesty for illegal aliens.

The Rev. Jim Wallis of Sojourners Magazine put it this way: "If given the choice on this issue between Jesus and Lou Dobbs, I choose my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ."

But before the faithful acquiesce in the false choice offered by the good Reverend, perhaps he and his followers should consult Romans 13, where it is written: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."

There is a more obvious and immediate judgment offered by the followers and members of both the Protestant and Catholic Churches. A Zogby poll last year asked churchgoers if they supported the House bill that would make illegal aliens return home and reduce future illegal immigration by securing the border and performing checks on illegal employers. Seventy-five percent of Protestants responded that was a good or very good idea, 77 percent of born-again Christians also agreed, and 66 percent of Catholics also backed tougher enforcement measures.

This schism between our church leaders and church members is just as broad and deep as that between our elected officials and their constituents across the country. Neither the state nor the church is exhibiting wisdom or fidelity to our national values in permitting the widening of that divide.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the writer.

Adrienne, thanks for posting this. As a news commentator, CNN's Lou Dobbs is second to none, and as a news anchor man, he's about the only guy out there who will stand up and tell it like it is. Your above post is just one example of his open and honest assessments of what is happening in America today. Frankly, if Dobbs ran for President, he'd certainly have my vote.

It's amazing how Lou Dobbs can turn every issue into a problem about immigration.  Smiley

Tom, I don't think that assessment is fair. Dobb's biggest concern is the attempt by the Council of Foreign Relations to establish the North American Union by pandering to Bush's agreement to form the "Security and Prosperity Partnership", which would pretty much end the sovereignty of America, and combine Canada, Mexico and the USA into one corrupt and corporate run system. They also intend to combine the currencies of all three countries into the "Amero," which means you can pretty much count on the fact that if you live in the US and have any money in the bank, you are going to see your savings seriously devalued. This is intended to be a done deal by 2010. The plan is to issue "worker's permits" to any and all Mexicans who want to work in the USA, and Dobbs reasonably sees that as an attempt by the Corporate Mafia behind globalization to lower wages and drive even more American's out of their jobs. Furthermore the intent is to encourage trade with China by bypassing all American ports, and setting up ports in Mexico, which would allow them to avoid paying union wages to American Longshoremen. The people behind this want to build a NAFTA Super Highway that goes all the way from Mexico up through Canada, in order to "affiliate trade" with China and the rest of the ASEAN trading block, and of course, they also want to avoid paying American truckers, so it's being set up so that most of the goods will be trucked through America and Canada by Mexican truckers willing to work for much lower wages.

There are now at least twenty different "working groups" and committees in Washington DC working on pulling this off, and they are completely avoiding any Senate involvement, by claiming this is only a "trade agreement" and therefore only concerns the Department of Commerce. For the most part, the whole grim plan is completely ignored by major news media groups.

Dobb's stand against immigration was because passing the Amnesty bill was a major step in the CFR's plan to create the North American Union. Many people have attempted to call Lou Dobbs a racist because of his stand against Amnesty, and that is patently ridiculous. Dobbs' wife of 25 years is a Mexican woman (now a citizen) and he takes care of his elderly Mexican in-laws who live with him and his wife.

Lou Dobbs is the only national news commentator who has even addressed these issues. You will also find that he is seriously questioning trade with China, which by the way, is STILL "Communist" China! Right now CHAMCO, a corporatiion that is primarily owned by China's PLA (People's Liberation Army)  is already breaking ground to set up a car manufacturing plant right across the border in Tiajuana. They've found a loophole in the NAFTA agreement and can get away with not paying any import tariffs by doing so. If this thing goes through, Tom, that means we are going to have Red China stationed at America's border. By the way, that is the SAME Red China that according to recent news stories is suspected of both funding and providing weapons to various Islamic Terriorist organizations!!! It's not in the least bit funny, if you ask me!

If you think I am just making this up, or am some crazy conspiracy nutcase, think again. I've been researching this for about the last three months now and am utterly floored. At last count I think there are now at least 18 states that have either passed or are in the process of passing bills that say "NO!" to the NAU. Tom, just do a Google search or go to Google Video and type in the words "Security and Prosperity Partnership" (SPP), "North American Union" (NAU), "Amero" and "NAFTA superhighway". And you can also check back with this thread, I'll try to post some decent links later.

For starters, since this began with Dobbs discussion of Christian right wing groups with questionable motives, here is a short Google Video that aptly points out how Christians in the Lone Star State of Texas, all of whom were previously Bush supporters, feel about Bush today. They think he is a lying dog who betrayed them. Thanks to Bush and his bloody SPP agreement, Texan people stand to lose a whopping 1.5 MILLION acres cut right out of the center of their state to make room for the NAFTA super highway! Today, they openly hate Bush's guts…

Sorry, KTCat, but I stand by what I have said.  The article itself proves my point.

Now, you probably know that I am by no means a fan of Bush, so carry on.  There are probably many things we can agree on.   Smiley

Dobbs isn't the only one who is concerned. CNBC has been reporting on it to. Here is a 2 minute video of a news story they broadcasted on the Amero...

Tom, I think you need to understand Lou Dobb's motives behind his battle against Amnesty. He's trying to fight something that basically means the end of America as we know it.

If you bother to do the research, you'll quickly find out that Washington DC working groups are pushing this whole thing through without any congressional oversight, nor any voter approval. Here is short video of Dobbs reporting his concerns. I've done the research, and I am concerned too.

"This brings the question of why should we be financing Chinese economic development when they certainly can afford to do it themselves? The answer comes in the form of corporate interests who seek these U.S. government backed loans to provide financing of their business activities in China.

In reality - We are financing the growth of the Chinese military. The idea of funding nuclear tipped missiles pointed at America is not a pleasant notion. I would prefer to not do it at all."

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/6/18/105602.shtml

It's really too bad that the author of this rather eye-opening article, though quite aware of China's threat as a military force, seems to be totally unaware that the whole proposed North American Union is being set up to affiliate free trade with China; the very same country that has brought us pet food that kills our dogs and cats, baby toys coated with lead based paints, tires that are unsafe to travel on, toothpaste that is killing people, and fish contaminated with chemicals found in anti-freeze.

If the North American Union happens according to plan, Communist China will basically be using Mexico as their "second home" for Chinese manufacturing plants.

Since China is second only to Japan in owning the lion's share of America's national debt, and now holds the paper on well over 400 billion dollars that we apparently now "owe" them, some of us are now wondering  if behind closed doors, China didn't threaten to call in their loans to us unless America bowed to their demands. I am afraid there is a lot more going on with this North American Union thing than meets the eye. Sure, behind all the smokescreens it is the obvious that the same move towards Corporate Globalization that pushed through the European Union and the Euro dollar is now at work pushing through the North American Union. However, behind it all looms China, now apparently holding hands with Mexico, and the import of it all does not bode well for either America or Canada.

If Lou Dobbs wasn't standing guard regularly reporting on these issues, very few people would even be clued in.

Here is a very good in depth video of what Canadians think about the North American Union. They don't like it either.

Hi KTCat

Thanks for the videos.

I wish we had more newsmen like Lou Dobbs... he is one of the few that has his common sense intact, his loyalties in the right place, and a willingness to challenge authority and prevailing opinion (conventional wisdom).

God Bless him...

Thanks bunches, Unknown.

If you or anybody else wants to know why this whole monstrous mess is not being addressed by more major television news programs, the answer is quite simple. The major movers and shakers behind the North American Union is the Council on Foreign Relations. Volitzer, of course, would be screaming "Illuminati", and perhaps indeed the Illuminati do represent the hidden groups behind the Council on Foreign Relations, but if so, said secretive organizations are now operating through the far more vocal and politically influential CFR. To belong to such an organization is considered an "honor" among many Washington DC insiders, and that includes the vast majority of people who will be running for President in the next election. However, you will find that on CFR roles is nearly every single major news anchor man, as well as a huge number of influential journalists of the press. Most major newspapers today are owned by CFR members. It is CFR policy, in keeping with the tradition of all secret organizations, that what goes on at their meetings must be kept secret. Any and all members who break that rule are to be immediately kicked out of the Council on Foreign Relations, and no doubt, along with that comes knowing that either their political or press careers will be totally destroyed.

Here is a very good (short) video that shows us all just how many top news people actually know about the North American Union and are not saying a damn word about it in order to remain in good standing with the CFR. It's really an eye-opener…

Lou Dobbs, thankfully, is not a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

As of 2006 there were 4,286 influential Americans who made up the roster of the Council of Foreign Relations.  Of this membership, 254 were top media reporters or owners of media conglomerates. Gads, even Diane Sawyer is a member! This is a more in depth video, lasting about 20 minutes that will let you know exactly which media news people are members of the CFR. Those members are purposefully keeping the plans and agenda for the North American Union from public scrutiny. Once I started really investigating what was going on, (thanks to Lou Dobbs,) I was utterly floored by what is really happening. If this thing goes through, we might as well kiss America goodbye. "America" will only be a word used to pacify the population, while the real power to control our nation will be completely in the hands of the elitist few. Those few are setting up the North American Union so they will never have to be held accountable to the American voter. It's that bad, folks. The NAU is literally a plan to steal America and the constitution right out from under our feet.
