FROM

MYTH OR REALITY?

by Murry Hope

"I have come from the house of the Leonine One,
I left there for the house of Isis,
I saw her hidden mysteries in that she let me see the birth of the

                               Great God."

                                                                   ANCIENT EGYPTIAN COFFIN TEXT

Prior to the disappearance of their island, the Atlanteans are believed to have established
colonies both east and west of the motherland and it is to the myths, legends and ancient
practices of these places that we must now turn for further information concerning the
"visitors from afar" who arrived on their shores.

However, care should be taken to distinguish between those major centres of Atlantean
religion, learning and commerce that were well established prior to the cataclysm and the
lesser known shores that provided a haven for Atlantean survivors fleeing the approaching
inundation.

Several places have been suggested by scholars as possible Atlantean colonies based
on similarities in myths and customs.

The best known of all of these colonies is believed to be Egypt, whose history can be
traced back many thousands of years.  There are, however, conflicting reports and
wide divergence of opinion regarding early civilization in pre-dynastic Egypt that need
to be aired and analysed.

According to Cyril Aldred, during late Palaeolithic times the retreating ice-cap affected
the climate of North Africa, causing it to become progressively drier.  In Egypt the early
pre-dynastic period, calculated from around 5000BC to 3600BC, encompasses the Neo-
lithic and Chalcolithic periods.

The Middle and Late pre-dynastic period is reckoned as 3600BC to 3200BC, after which
we enter the realms of history.

From archaeololgical finds, we know that during the Amratian period there was an influx
of broad-headed (brachycephalic) peoples, the indigenous population of Hamites belong-
ing to the long-headed (dolichocephalic) type.  All the evidence points to the fact that
this spread of foreign influence in the fourth millennium BC came from the north.

Spanuth agrees with this, asserting that in the Egypt of 8000-9000BC there was no
Egyptian state, no temples with inscriptions and no papyrus texts.

EGYPT                                                                                                      continued

The Nile Valley was uninhabited (the first few remains in the area date from the
fifth to sixth millennia BC and were found on the nearby heights) while the
Libyans make their first appearance in the records of Merneptah around 1227BC.

In Greece there was no Athenian armies.  Nor had the Bronze Age made its
appearance in weaponry or artefacts.  And yet all these things are mentioned by
Plato, and confirmed by other sources, so what is the answer?

According to Herodotus, who received his information from the Egyptian priests,
their written history dated back 11,340 years before his era, or nearly 14,000
years prior to the present.  A degree of support for this can be found in Ignatius
Donnelly's quotation of other source.

EGYPT                                                                                                 continued

"At the epoch of Menes," says Winchell, "the Egyptians were already
a civilized and numerous people.  Manetho tells us that Athotis, the
son of this first king, Menes, built the palace at Memphis; that he
was a physician, and left anatomical books.  All these statements
imply that even at this early period the Egyptians were in a high
state of civilization."  (Winchell's PREADAMITES, p.120.)  "In the time
of Menes the Egyptians had long been architects, sculptors, painters,
mythologists, and theologians."  Professor Richard Owen says:
"Egypt is recorded to have been a civilized and governed community
BEFORE the time of Menes.  The pastoral community of a group of
nomad families, as portrayed in the Pentateuch, may be admitted as
an early step in civilization.  But how far in advance of this stage is a
nation administered by a kingly government, consisting of grades of
society, with divisions of labor, of which one kind, assigned to the
priesthood, was to record or chronicle the names and dynasties of
the kings, the duration and chief events of their reigns!"  Ernest
Renan points out that "Egypt at the beginning appears mature, old,
and entirely without mythical and heroic ages, as if the country had
never known youth.  Its civilization has no infancy, and its art no
archaic period.  The civilization of the Old Monarchy did not appear
with infancy.  It was already mature."

The Alsatian philosopher R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz assembled a great deal
of Egyptian material over a period of ten years, following a sojourn of
fifteen years at Luxor (1936-51).

His stepdaughter, Lucie Lamy, made detailed measurements and drawings
of the stones and statuary of the great temple at Luxor that showed that
the ancient Egyptians possessed a hitherto unsuspected knowledge of
mathematics and cosmic form, which she later incorporated into her book
EGYPTIAN MYSTERIES.

Schwaller de Lubicz himself was the author of several published works,
notably LE TEMPLE DE L'HOMME, which also deals with the more esoteric
aspects of early Egyptian culture.

The ancient Egyptians possessed a solar, lunar and Sothic calendar.
In fact, Sothis, the binary star we know as Sirius, featured strongly in their
earliest history.

It is my fervent belief that the Egyptians derived this information from the
Atlantean priests, which goes to confirm the standard of knowledge that
the scientific community of the Old Country had attained.

Schwaller de Lubicz tells us:

"The Sothic cycle is established on the coincidence every 1460
years of the VAGUE YEAR of 365 days with the SOTHIC (OR SIRIAN) year of
3651/4 days.  All civil acts were dated according to the vague year,
composed of exactly 360 days plus the five epagomenal days
consecrated to the NETERS: Osiris, Isis, Seth, Nephthys and Horus.

The Sirian, or FIXED YEAR, was established according to the heliacal
rising of Sirius, yet the interval between two heliacal risings of
Sirius corresponds neither to the tropical year, which is shorter, nor

TO THE PRECESSION OF THE EQUINOXES, ON THE ONE HAND, AND THE MOVEMENT OF
SIRIUS ON THE OTHER, THE POSITION OF THE SUN WITH RESPECT TO SIRIUS IS
DISPLACED IN THE SAME DIRECTION, ALMOST EXACTLY TO THE SAME EXTENT.

Calculations established by astronomers have demonstrated that
between 4231 and 2231 BC, the approximate duration of the reign
of the Bull, HAP, the Sirian year was almost identical to our Julian
year of 365 1/4 days.  This period would cover the entire Ancient
Empire, "and we cannot but admire the greatness of a science capable
of discovering such a coincidence because SIRIUS IS THE ONLY STAR AMONG
THE "FIXED STARS" WHICH ALLOWS THIS CYCLE.  It can, therefore, be supposed
that Sirius plays the role of a center for the circuit of our entire solar
system".

EGYPT                                                                                         continued

Enter another character in the DRAMATIS PERSONAE of the
Atlantis drama, and it is ancient Egypt we have to thank for
the preservation of this knowledge.  Sirius was known as the
GREAT PROVIDER and, as such, was constantly evoked in
pyramid texts:

"Isis comes to thee [Osiris], joyous in thy love;

Your seed rises in her, penetrating [spd.t]* like Sirius [spd.t]*.

The penetrating [spd] Horus comes forth from thee in his

         name of Horus-who-is-in-Sirius.

*[spd. and spd.t] represent the Egyptian hieroglyphics for Sothis
(Sirius), the 't' indicating the feminine gender.

On a number of occasions Cayce suggested that the Pyrenees were a place of refuge for the Atlanteans.  This makes sense to me, since the mountains would have offered the protection of a higher elevation close to the Atlantic.  Also there's the mystery of the Basque people.  Where did they come from?

EGYPT                                                                                         continued

Although a history is claimed for Egypt that dates back to 36,620 BC,
the Pharaonic calendar is established as being introduced only in 4240BC.

The five epagomenal days are related to the birth of the five Neter and,
since the whole arrangement revolves around Sirius, the only star to
return periodically every 365 1/4 days, does this imply that whichever
energies were responsible for the loss of the Atlantean civilization
were orchestrated from Sirius?

Should this prove to be the case, it would be reasonable to inquire as
to whether the five Neters were, as Donnelly and others suggest,
Atlantean leaders, priests/priestesses or leading personalities on the
Atlantean political scene, or were they from somewhere else?

EGYPT                                                                                         continued

When I wrote my epic poem THE STORY OF ISIS AND OSIRIS, I referred
to the Egyptian god Ra as relating to the Sothism system and not to our
own Sun, the latter being represented by Ra's legendary "eye".

It was not until I encountered the following statement and other aspects
of Schwaller de Lubicz's work, that many of my own "memories" began to
fall into place.

"It took our own discoveries in atomism and astronomy to suggest yet
another characteristic of Sirius which coincides with what we are be-
ginning to know about the atomic nucleus, made up of a positron ( a
giant star of very weak density) accompanying a neutron whose volume
is exceedingly small in relation to the atom, but where all its weight is
concentrated  (a dwarf star of incredible density)........

The double star of Sirius - which for Pharaonic Egypt played the role
of a central sun to our entire solar system - today suggests the ex-
istence of a cosmic system of atomic structure whose NUCLEUS is
this "Great Provider", the Sothis [spd.t] of the ancients.

There might well be a need to revise our cosmology in the
not-so-distant future."

EGYPT                                                                                        continued

Details of my studies of Sirius, from an astronomical viewpoint, is to
be found in my books THE LION PEOPLE and ANCIENT EGYPT-THE
SIRIUS CONNECTION.

The fact that the whole historical period of Pharaonic Egypt the
heliacal rising of Sirius, which marked the New year's Day, always
took place when the Sun was in the constellation of Leo confirms
my suspicion that the arrival of the first colonists from Atlantis
would have been connected with both the constellation of the LION
and the binary system of the fixed star Sirius (longitude 13Deg.
34' of Cancer).

Schwaller de Lubicz also sees Sirius as having some bearing on the
climate of our planet and comments on the fact that climatological
variations, if only a few degrees, can affect all life on Earth.

A drop in temperature drives peoples towards other, less hostile
zones, while higher temperatures witness the birth of new plant and
animal life.

Some of the principal movements within our solar system are well
known, others not so and, since climatological modifications appear
to obey sidereal variations, he sees Sirius as being responsible for
both our climate and that of the entire solar system.

It may be deduced from a study of the Sothian calendar that the
Precession of Equinoxes, the discovery of which was hitherto attri-
buted to Hipparchus in 134BD, was known to the ancient Egyptians
(and Atlanteans), the heliacal rising of Sirius being associated with
the beginning of the Nile's flooding and the birth of Ra in the Zodiacal
sign of Leo.

EGYPT                                                                                              continued

Schwaller de Lubicz tells us:

"Yet it was always NUN, the primordial, indeterminate state (or
ocean) which receives the characteristic impulse of the celestial
influence, and this impulse varies according to the Precessional
Month.

Thus it is that Pharaonic prehistory was dominated by The Twins
SHU and TEFNUT, whose nature consists in separating Heaven from
Earth.  This has been interpreted as representing the two crowns of
the Empire, as yet dualized.  At that time there existed the kingdom
of the South with its double capital, NEKHEN and NEKHEB, and the
kingdom of the North with its dual capital, DEP and PE.  The
vestiges of this period show a pronounced double character and it is
certainly at this time that the Heliopolitan mystery of primordial
dualization was revealed.

At Memphis, under the Ancient Empire, there was the
domination of Hap, the Bull, who precipitated celestial fire into
terrestrial form.  The Bull, the great NETER of the historical period
extending from 4380 to 2200BC, commands the Cretan civilization
as well.

From the Middle Empire to the beginning of the Christian era,
we see the domination of Amon the Ram.  It is in Thebes, under the
predominance of Amon, that the generating fire is "extracted", so to
speak, from its terrestrial gangue-matrix, Khonsu, by the grace of
Djehuti (Thoth), master of Hermopolis.

NUN is invariable, while the receptive milieux, or environments,
are generative, and hence feminine.  They are successively: NUT in
Heliopolis, SEKHMET-HATHOR in Memphis and then MUT in Thebes.

What was elaborated at Heliopolis was Shu and Tefnut as
creation; in Memphis it becomes Nefertum, issue of the couple
Ptah-Sekhmet, while at Thebes, the product of Amon and Mut is
Khonsu.

But succession means generation and not juxtaposition, although
the philosophical legend must situate the principles as if coexisting
personages were involved.

Finally, toward the year 60 BC, with the end of the political
empire of Egypt under Cleopatra, our Christian era of Pisces begins."

EGYPT                                                                                                continued

The prevailing ethos colours the overshadowing influences, each respective
culture moulding the Neters, or gods and goddesses, accordint to its own
needs of image and likeness.

Schwaller de Lubicz's researchers coincide with, and give credence to, the
eighteenth-century scholar Bacstrom's estimate that the EMERALD TABLES
were written CIRCA 2500bc, falling somewhere between the Memphian and
Middle Empires.

Plato's bull cults also assume a new reality in the light of later datings, which
show how either Solon or the Egyptian priests mixed up their historical facts
somewhere along the line.

One is inclined to suspect Solon, as the works of Schwaller de Lubicz and
Lucie Lamy tend to confirm that the Egyptians had retained the earlier
knowledge with some degree of accuracy.

A deeper look at the contents of the EMERALD TABLES gives us an even
clearer picture of the profundity of early Egyptian knowledge, both
esoteric and exoteric:

"True it is, without falsehood, certain, and very real:

What is below is as that which is above, and what is above is as that
which is below, in order to perform the Miracle of one thing only.

And just as all things have been and have come forth from One, so
all things have been born of this sole-singular thing, by adaptation.

The Sun is its Father, the Moon is its Mother and the Wind has
carried it in its belly; the Earth is its nurse.  The Father of the entire
Teleme of the whole world is here.  Its force of puissance is entire if
it be converted into Earth.

Thou shalt separate the Earth from the Fire, the Subtile from the
Dense, gently, with great ingenuity.  It rises from the Earth to Heaven,
and again descends into Earth, and it receives the strength of things
above and below.  By this means thou shalt have the glory of all the
World, and through it, all obscurity will flee from thee.

Theis is the strong Strength of all strength, for it will vanquish any
subtile thing and penetrate any solid thing.

Thus has the world been created.

From this there shall be and there will come forth marvellous
adaptations, the means of which is here.

Therefore, I have been called Hermes Trismegistus, possessing the
three parts of the Philosophy of the entire world.

What I have said concerning the operation of the Sun is
accomplished and perfected."

These words have both scientific and metaphysical connotations,
such as the idea of the oneness of the universe and the unity of
all matter, the mirror-like similarity between the quantum and
subatomic worlds and the greater univese, the waves that gene-
rate all substances, the mastery of atomic power, and the cycle
of learning through which all living creatures progress - the re-
finer's fire of experience - which ultimately leads us back along
the road to the One.

The Greek philosopher and scientist Democritus (c.460-370 BC)
expounded a theory that the universe is made up of minute
particles (atoms), multifariously arranged to account for the
differing properties of matter.

Moschus the Phoenician is believed to have communicated this
ancient knowledge to Democritus.  Moschus' atomic theory, how-
ever, was nearer the truth, in that it also accommodated the
concept of the divisibility of the atom.
