Browsing the Internet, I came across stories of an underwater city being discovered off the coast of Cuba by Russian scientists in 2001, the discovery of the sunken island of Spartel just outside the Straits of Gibralter.

Both these stories at the time were, of course, linked to Atlantis and follow-up expeditions were promised, but I can't find anymore on them. Does anyone in the forum know if these expeditions ever took place and, if so, did
they find anything..? The Cuba expedition looked especially promising.

Now that I'm at it, I might as well get into some of the other stories that have peaked my interest. It's been
over ten years since Rand Flem-Ath's Earth crust displacement/Antarctica theory. Have any expeditions taken
place there either..? The Ted Danson documentary "In Search of Atlantis" said that satellite photos have detected a circular object beneath the ice, much like the concentric circles of Atlantis. Is anymore known about it?

It's also been over ten years since Robert Schoch's Great Sphinx erosion theory and the presumption of a secret chamber found beneath the Sphinx's paw...does anyone know anything more about that either..?

Lastly, there was another story on the Internet about a medallion dated 10,000 years ago, in the time of Atlantis. The professor found the item, promised more information on it, then disappeared, no more was heard from him, he just disappeared. Of course, this story has the look of a hoax, but I wonder if anyone has any information that it was for sure.

Of course, I realize I've given people a lot to chew on here, I have many more questions, but that's enough for now. I imagine if anyone at all knows the answers to them, they would be here (the editors and writers of Atlantis Rising magazine can also feel free to pipe in as I'm sure they might have better information than any of us). If there is also some website where someone is keeping track of all of this, please let me know about it.

The more I read about Atlantis, the more I believe that it existed, pretty much when and where Plato said it did, and that historians, archaeologists and Egyptologists have either misidentified or misdated ruins and relics because they don't fit in with their rather narrow and linear view of history.

I might not call it a conspiracy, but parts of it do seem a bit suspcicious...

I've heard that Spartel will be investigated in July of this year.

After reading some of the forums, I get the feeling that Cuba is being investigated right now.

Can anyone confirm this..?

Go here, scroll down to numbers 1-20. Interesting readings on the topic of Atlantis.

Thanks, but I have already browsed many of those topics, and haven't seen anything specfic to the Cuba exploration. The site was discovered in 2001, does anyone have any details of what has happened since then?

I also mentioned Antarctica (per Rand Flem-Ath's books), I don't think anything has happened there, or am I wrong?

Many of the things mentioned on the Internet to do with Atlantis tend to be red herrings, of course, but Cuba, Spartel and Antarctica all got a lot of press as possible locations when they were announced as possible sites for Atlantis.

It would be nice to know if anything else has happened with them.

Well Never mind Antarctica, that's a red herring indeed, although Charles Hapgood was definiely onto something

Spartel is a baby of Jacques Collina-Girard and don't mention him to Georgeos or Maria

Cuba, the worlds biggest mystery is in the hands of Manuel Itturalde a renowned geologist, but nothing is happening afaik I'm afraid.

Thanks for the information, Andre, looking forward to the time when they release some more
information on Cuba.

You're welcome and we are waiting anxiously too.

ADCMAR (Paulina Zelitski and Paul Weinzweig) had big plans about recovering some rock samples and develloped all kind of things but funding was a problem and this is induced by politics.

Why is this site in Cuban terrorial waters?

I wonder what the position is of the (archeo-)geologic world. The site beats any explanation so far, and the crackpots are on the loose of course.

I think things would be a lot easier if Castro was not still the leader there.

As I understand it, when the site was first found back in 2001, they even thought it might be a
secret military installation underwater at first. I suppose that they still have to get the government's permission.

I did read in the articles that, because it is so far beneath the surface, scientists think that it is the work of a civilization not just a couple of thousand years old, but as much as fifty thousand years old.

That's because the reason why it was submerged was because of rising water levels.

If it was drowned because of some natural disaster, like say, the Atlantis story, they might have to revise the whole theory.

Well I guess it's most embarrasing for science.

The geologists who have not researched the material, don't know how fast they must declare this a natural phenomenon, pointing at some other geometric and symmetric features like devils tower or formations of hexagonal basalt columns.

However these things are formed emerse, on land, and the site looks orders of magnitude more complicated than than the most symmetric features of nature.

Moreover, Manuel Itturalde-Vinent, author of over hundred scientific publications, who examined the material closely, hardly speculates about a natural origine. In fact he suggest that to be the least
likely explanation.

So the thing -natural or not- is most likely formed on land but supposedly the sea level presumably has not risen 700-800 meters anywhere in the last million years.

If we assume that the maximum possible subsidence speed equals the maximum assumed rebounce speed of roughly 15mm a year, yes then the side could not be younger than about 50,000 years. But contrary to other rising and sinking areas there is not a trace of such a subsidence speed left as the area is not sinking now.

But there are many more problems, water erosion and the reported high sediment rate (assuming about an order of magnbitde mm per year) would make a site like this unrecognisable within a short time span and 50,000 years seems a awful long time then.

But were humans capable of building or modifying sites like that, such a long time ago? Moreover, there were no people in South America before the Clovis people entered America via the Beringia land bridge some 15,000 years ago, as we are lead to believe very strongly.

So, was it build more recently and did it sink incredibly quick, to have the preservation state it has now? That would seem plausible but there is no known phenomenon (Vulcano calderas, Meteorite strikes, land slides) that would sink the land so deep and still left the structure intact.

In a word, a formal mystery and science hates that. So I wonder why it is so awfully quiet out there. Or is it that one of the rock solid paragdigms that clash here will be debunked and nobody likes to see his pet theory go down the drain?

Andre,

I'm, not certain what the Cuba site is myself but the more I read about it, the more I think that something is very odd is going on there. Why is it that no one on the research team has said much about it, more to the point, why haven't there been any pictures taken..? I don't know about you, but all I've seen is sonar readings.

I lean towards the idea that the site is not 50,000 years old but that some disaster might have sunk it very quickly. There aren't any volcanoes in the area, but if I remember correctly, there are two giant holes in the ocean of the Caribbean where scientists have theorized that a comet struck many years ago, in prehistory. Whether that would leave the site sunken and yet also intact is another thing.

The Caribbean as a whole seems to have some strange things in it and if Cuba hadn't of been in Castro's hands for the last forty years, some of these things might have been discovered a lot earlier. Everyone from Andrew Collins, to Edgar Cayce, to Ivar Zapp and our friend George Erikson link Cuba and/or the Caribbean in some way to Atlantis...

But there are pictures:

Only the visibility was very poor and it's not much of a help. I'm afraid that the link to that book is exactly what I meant by crackpot$, however I must admit that I cherish some crackpot ideas myself.

I'm not sure how much I believe them myself, the Littles seems to be really influenced by
Edgar Cayce. That's fine, but as far as I'm concerned, some of the Cayce stuff can be a little far-fetched at times.

Thanks for the pictures, do you have any idea what the scale is that we are looking at..? One could
be a pyramid, and I have heard that there are underwater pyramids in other parts of the Atlantic (although I don't have any verification of that other than author Charles Berlitz' word).

Are there anymore pictures..?
