A by-product of this theory has been accepted as a proof by ocean-
ographers and others that Atlantis never existed, nor could have
existed, as there would be no land mass left over for Atlantis to fit
into among the drifting continents.

For all land areas fitted together - to the satisfaction of Wegener at
least - almost without any misssing pieces, EXCEPT in the southern
portion of the North Atlantic, where Atlantis reputedly was located.

Here the "uplifted" plateau of the oceanic crust would form the fabled
continent - a fertile, pleasant, subtropical land in the southern plains,
with invigorating climatic changes in the northern mountains.
