German tourists try to lure Nessie with Haribo

Suffice to say, this probably won't work in practice. Image Credit: Haribo / YouTube
A bizarre new trend has seen tourists throwing Haribo sweets in to Loch Ness to try and lure the monster.
The mystery of this strange practice was recently solved by 53-year-old Steve Feltham who famously gave up his job, his house and even his girlfriend to hunt for the famous Scottish lake monster all the way back in 1991 and has been living on the shores of the loch ever since.

It didn't take him long to notice that tourists kept throwing Haribo sweets in to the water and laughing.

The reason, it turns out, is that there is an advert for Haribo in Germany which shows a tour guide at Loch Ness pouring a pile of Haribo sweets in to a bowl and offering it to his troupe.

When the guide picks up one of the sweets and tosses it in to the air, Nessie emerges from the water and grabs it - much to the amusement of the tourists.

"Another mystery solved here at Loch Ness," said Feltham.

Shepton Mallet Prison in Somerset is believed by many to be one of Britain's most haunted buildings.
Formerly Britain's oldest operating prison, Shepton Mallet closed its doors in 2013 and has since served as a tourist attraction and venue for ghost tours and other events.

It originally opened all the way back in 1625 and was closed, renovated and expanded several times. In 1939 it became a military prison and was used by the US Army to hang condemned prisoners.

Over the centuries it has housed thousands of inmates and many people believe that to this day the ghosts of those who died within its walls can still be seen and heard roaming its corridors.

One of the most common sightings in the prison is of a lady in white, while the sounds of disembodied voices are also often reported. Its haunted reputation has made it a popular destination for paranormal investigators and thrill-seekers hoping to catch a glimpse of something otherworldly.

For those interested in experiencing the building's ominous atmosphere for themselves, Tormented Nights UK will be hosting two paranormal activity nights there later this year.

For everyone else - a daylight tour of the prison's interior can be viewed in the video below.

Haunted hospital draws in thousands each year

Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, Kentucky is often regarded to be one of America's most haunted buildings.
Originally opened in 1910 as a small two-storey building for housing tuberculosis patients, Waverly Hills soon began to expand exponentially after an epidemic ravaged the population.

It is believed that as many as 60,000 patients lost their lives while battling the disease within the sanatorium's walls. Many of the bodies were unceremoniously dumped down the infamous 485ft "death chute" that was used to help the hospital staff dispose of them more efficiently.

In 1962 the building was turned in to a nursing home for the elderly but ended up being closed after two decades following reports of patient neglect. In 1983 there were plans to turn the sanatorium in to a prison, however the idea fell through due to complaints from neighboring properties.

In more recent years, Waverly Hills has found a new calling as a destination for paranormal investigators and enthusiasts who come hoping to encounter something unexplained.

As many as 35,000 people attend guided 'ghost' tours of the building each year.

"They come from Ireland, China, Australia, Russia," said executive director Tina Mattingly.

"If it wasn't for them, this building would not be saved. It's the people that are saving it, that come here to go on tours. And it's the building that's drawing the people here."

"This is a memorial to all the people that came through here and it deserves to be saved."
