Great work, Unknown!  You have, every bit, the soul of the artist.  Have you ever tried illustrating your own stories and poems?

Thanks Brooke

That means a lot to me, you just can't know how much, I was always being discouraged from becoming an artist. I wanted to draw comic books it was all I ever really wanted.

I will probably do illustrations for whatever stories I write, I was an illustrator for a national magazine for a couple of years. The Parish Editor it was a big catholic Publishing house, well not so big.

This is part of tarot deck I was desiging based on Greek "Mythology" and of coarse the Kabbalah, which I never finished to my everlasting shame. I would rather use the term religion than mythology but then no one would know what I was talking.

Great art there, Unknown!  I can see all sorts of comic book influences in it - Frazetta, Jim Starlin, Paul Gulcacy!

I used to want to be a comic book artist myself and would go to all the conventions.  Did you ever try to get hired by Marvel or DC?

No kiddin Zodiac! you wanted to draw comics too

No I never did try, did you ever see that book "How to Draw Comics" by Stan Lee And John Buscemi

wow it was great. They had a big Marvel Tryout Book with real Comic board with crop marks and everything, but I chicken out and never even drew anything in it.  I started to draw some of my stories but I just never finished them

Gorgeous painting!

Yeah, I have both books. The "How to" book was what taught me about perspective.  Very valuable!  I am more of a penciller, than an inker, though. I'm pretty quick, too, I love the whole storytelling element you get with comics.  I submitted my work to Marvel and DC years ago (back before I was any good) and assume it ended up in the sludge pile.

These days, the art in comics is so crappy I'm not even interested in getting into it.  All tired old Manganese stuff.

I wanted to be a penciler too, my biggest problem was perspective.

I love your version of Faith, man is she hot!  You can really do likenesses well.

I didn't mind MacFarlane so much as all the crap that came after - all maganese crap.  Comes from Japan.  Cheap, junky, hurried stuff that doesn't know how to set a mood and doesn't even try to be realistic.  And they are doing all the books the same way!

We went from Neal Adams to junk.

I think McFarlin opened the door hes the first one that really broke the traditional comic panel format. Every once in a while people will pick up comics for me to read but It is just not the same.

My favorite comic artists are john Bryne and John Buscema those guys new what they were doing not only were they fantastic artists but they knew how to tell a story with pictures.

Great work, Unknown, the last one did remind be of Boris, I like the ability to switch styles. I used to draw myself.  Have you ever heard of a guy named Mke Deodato?  Really good at drawing women.  He was one of my influences, he did Wonder Woman back in the 1990's.

I also used to be really into that comic book, "Lady Death."  Ever see it?

Hi Rocky

That bird picture is pretty wild, I don't know why your having a problem making them come out big, they should be the same size as they are on the site you grabbed them from.

If you right click on the picture you should be able to bring up a menu, select properties from the menu and it will have the web address for you to paste into the image brackets here.

Hope that helps

If you click on the picture, it comes out big.

I think you dowloaded it from your computer, Rockessense.  All you have to do is click on the picture, copy the web address and put the image brackets around it in a post here and you're all set (like Unknown just said).  It takes seconds at best.

Yes, I see all sorts of references to the Alamo as the new Thermopylae.  It wasn't quite the same. It took far more effort to kill a person with a sword than it did a musket.

No queston, war is terrible. However, it wa far more intimately terrible in ancient days.

Title: Re: Art for Art's sake not, for Pete's Sake
Post by: unknown on February 21, 2007, 11:39:08 pm
Absolutely

War has always been terrible thing, I can't imagine standing in a line like they did in the civil war waiting for everybody to be cut to shreds by musket balls, waiting for the order to fire. yowzah

By the end of the civil war they had carbines which were more effective at killing(more penetration), but didn't rip you apart like musket balls did.

Unfortunately, they had a lot of amputations during the Civil War. Oddly, there is a lot of that going on in Iraq now as well.  War is a terrible bueiness.

Great artwork, Unknown!  I can tell you used to be a commercial artist.  Is the work steady in that line of business? I had a friend who used to be a freelancer, he used to tell me that you have to build up a client list and are always on the look out for your next job. I guess it is hard to get full-time jobs as an illustrator.  That's a shame cause it takes far more talent to draw than most of the other things that people get paid to do.

CEOs, for instance, have no talent but the willingnness to screw people over and there is no shortage of them anywhere.

You are on fire tonight! that last post cracked me up.

So what does being a web administrator entail, designing websites?  In what way are you losing your skill set?

Yah and a lot of them are just professional ass-kissers.

Yah I do design work, but an admistrator is more like maintenance, you put up anything new that they want up, managing the account that sort of stuff.

Well I don't know I just fell I am falling behind...

Post by: Desiree on February 24, 2007, 10:54:45 pm
Actually, that job sounds like it's a lot of fun. What kinds of websites do you do that for, and does it pay a lot?

I can't see how you're falling behind. Most websites are using all the same stuff they used to use, I guess - HTML and all that.

AWESOME, Unknown!!!

Even my five-year- old great-grandaughter was blown away by these pictures!!!

If you ever make them into posters, let us know.

<Astroworld.us.com>, one of the Astrological blogs I go to has about half a
dozen artists that post there.  Some of them have their art for sale.  I just
bought a 2007 calendar from one of them.  Great idea for extra income........

I'd buy a copy of ATHENA  anytime.  Love that one, particularly.  It kind of em-
bodies what some of us older "warriors" feel like inside, considering what we
had to go through to survive in a male-dominated world..........

We haven't quite yet 'laid down our arms', considering the last six years.
Now we are fighting for PEACE.

I have actually thought about turning some of my art into posters, but I have no idea how to do it. (if anyone knows please give me a heads up on that.) I have been working for some time to get enough paintings for a calendar. But as you may have noticed my efforts are somewhat scattered.

Unknown,

With your permission, I'll enquire from my friend at Astroworld.  She and I are
about the same age (almost 70) and she has made a living with her art all her
life.  As a matter of fact, she DOES have posters for sale, also.  So, I am sure she
will help.

Let me know if you would like that.

Love and Peace,

I had that life drawing class too.

It was funny because most of the peoples favorite model was this very overweight older women, not healthy young women or man.

I always thought it was because with the overweight model you didn't need to get the perspective or porportions just right, actually I gave away a lot of those pics to the models...because they asked for them.

I have done a few live portraits for friends.

The hardest part for me was that they didn't sit still!

It was also a little bit disarming at first. The models I drew from were posing **** and I wasn't used to seeing that.

I'm one of those people who have yet to pick a major. Ideally, I'd like to get involved with archaeological digs, but you really can't major in archaeology.  So, I just try and take a lot of ancient history classes and see where I can go from there.

It definitely bothered me most of the time I was drawing from a life model, mostly cause they kept changing the model!  It was really hard to get used to, I definitely couldn't model like that.

Corel Photo-paint??  The things you can do with a computer these days!  Does anyone ever draw anything by hand anymore?

I've never seen one like that before, usually they are so boring in their design.  Did it getcha a lot of calls?

I used to do these crazy felt marker sketches at work, when there wasn't anything to do, some of them were joke to help ease the tension of deadlnes.

I think I had three markers see how the blue and yellow mixed to make green, no more than three I see purple there

What sort of deadlines did you have, you mean like for artwork?

You should have sent that resume off to Marvel Comics or one of those other comic book companies!  Your true calling is storytelling, baby!!

Post by: unknown on March 03, 2007, 03:48:33 am
I know,  :'(

Publishing deadlines, we did about thirty newsletters a day, about eighty on Friday's, so Friday was like sixteen to twenty hour day, because they didn't want to hire people full time.

I did paste-up, vertical camera, scanning and trained the new employees, also seasonal and weekly art.

At one point we were going through at least two people a week and I had to train the people in two different departments While I was there I had four different managers that was in like three years.

Yes its possible but not probable.

I have to say people really underestimate comic book artists you have two be able to draw everything from a dinosaur to New york City Skyline and everything in between. One comic averages over 300 drawings and that has to be done in a month or less.

Compared to that being an illustrator is a breeze

It doesn't have to be probable, silly, all you have to do is keep at it and keep your eyes open for opportunities!  You have the talent, you just need a break!

Yes, I know that comic book artists have to draw everything, and they are underestimated.  On the other hand, a lot of the art I've seen isn't as detailed and lacks depth - it's a bit too cartoony!!

We could tell it from his perspective, you could open the book with him raping someone, then later on, someone escapes being raped by him and we feel bad for him that he got away.

We can also feel cheated whenever someone gets away from that dang axe - the bastards!

Great stuff, Unknown, you have a really nice sense of light and dark.

Boy, do I miss Buffy being on TV. I used to watch it all the time.  I was hoping that there would be a spinoff show with Faith, but, of course that never happened. Didn't like his other show, Firefly. Angel was pretty cool, though.

Buffy was great, they had really good writers working on that show, its not easy to pull off all that crazy over the stop stuff and not have the characters becoming two dimensional.

Hi Veronica

Thanks

Its really nice to hear you say that, I went to a college for commercial art, I always admired the models(not like that!) because from my perspective I thought it took a lot of guts to disrobe in front of a room full of strangers.

I was saying earlier that I gave away a lot of my drawings to the models, I remember the first day the teacher took all the pictures and laid them on the floor and I was just standing there looking at them and the teachers says, "Yours aren't the best," I hadn't said a word. I think we both new they were, why else would he say that? Not bragging just a fact. I had to take writing classes for my web design degree, but it was all like papers and journals, some flash fiction and poetry.

But what I really enjoyed was speech class, there is nothing like having an audience.

I really want to go to the art school they have here CCS but it is ridicuously expensive.

I actually liked posing for the art classes, I had no inhibitions about showing my body, and I still pose for some artist friends of mine upon occasion - both photographers and artists.  You're only young once, so you might as well make the most of what you've been given while you have the opportunity.  I also think think that people tend to make too much of the human body, it is art, after all, I reject the idea that nudity in itself equals pornography.

It sounds like your instructor wanted to be hard on you because he knew you had talent and was trying to get you to work harder. They are always hard on the good ones.  When they don't have much of a reaction to your work, that's when you are in trouble.

It's a pity that all art is done on the coimputer these days, sort of takes the talent part out of it.

Well

Paintings a lot harder on the computer, it is so hard to get smooth curves with a mouse I end of having to keep painting and painting to redine the shape.

Its quite difficult. There are a lot of cool effects you can use, nut what I like about it is you can save, so if you screw up, you can just go back to where you saved. If your painting with traditional methods or ink its much harder to fix a mistake, a lot of times if you make a mistake it is ruined entirely. Another good thing about it is, I don't have to spend a fortune on art supplies. paint brushes canvas etc.

Don't you think it's more fun to do it by hand than on computer?  I could never figure out how to draw with a computer, apparently t takes a lot practice.

Title: Re: Art for Art's sake not, for Pete's Sake
Post by: unknown on March 17, 2007, 06:38:23 am
Yes Desiree

It is more fun and more satisfing, often it has more soul, more freedom, more expressiveness too.

What I like to do is pencil drawings and then paint them with the computer.

It takes a whole lot of practice, but so does any worthwhile skill

The Obliate

Ancient grimoiries,
With their alchemist's stories,

Lead to a learning,
Of oddic forces a’churning.

Secrets lay hidden,
Nature's forces are bidden

The dark abyss calls,
Forbidden knowledge enthralls.

The rituals lure,
Into realms now impure,

Unnatural bound beings,
Tortured souls still screaming.

Maintain your control,
Guard that light airy soul.

A bane to our kind,
Beware of a curious mind.

Rip off her clothes!

All artists are pervs at heart!!

Hi Carolyn

Oh I love the female form, I have been studying it diligently for years and have just barely scatched the surface of it's mysteries and wonders.

"All artists are pervs at heart!!"

I can't really answer for all the other artist's, but in general I'd say yes we are. ;D

Except perhaps, those who only do landscapes, but even they are suspect, if you ask me.

Wow, what nice work!  And such a diversity of styles, too.
I don't mind that male artists like to use the female form as an object of so many of their pieces.  I don't find it sexist, either, only romantic and beautiful.

Hi Heather

Yes I do...venerate them,

I am one of the last few that remain of a dying breed of true romantics, a firm believer in chivalry.

It is better to believe in something noble, and be wrong-then to believe in something ignoble and be right.

The Obliate

Ancient grimoiries,
With their alchemist's stories,

Lead to a learning,
Of oddic forces a’churning.

Secrets lay hidden,
Nature's forces are bidden

The dark abyss calls,
Forbidden knowledge enthralls.

The rituals lure,
Into realms now impure,

Unnatural bound beings,
Tortured souls still screaming.

Maintain your control,
Guard that light airy soul.

A bane to our kind,
Beware of a curious mind.

Title: Octopus's Garden (starkey) thats Ringo...

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
Because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.

Hi Psych

I don't have much, a few scattered storyboards, a couple odds and ends of pages, with moving and computer crashes... I have a few from the "Bear Claw comic but the seventeen and half inch storyboards are to big for my scanner. I had a ten page comic called "night of the succubus" but I lost it in a crash and it was to raunchy to post her anyways.

I used to search around on the internet a lot for free-lance illustration jobs, I have to admit that most of the business I did get was for fetish stuff.

I don't have much of that laying around anymore, there are a lot of wild fetishes. One guy paid me eighty bucks a pick for large breasted bald women...some other stuff...

I couldn't post it anyways, I mean its pornography really

One site I illustrated for was all about sex and laughing gas--nitrous oxide...

I did a 3D Lara Croft that got stuck in a chamber filled with laughing gas, an animation of Scully getting her feet tickled with a feather...

Actually its kind of hard to draw people laughing...

Ohhh I just remember another good one, superhero sex, I actually did a couple of short strips for them, along with foot fetishes, leather, bondage, spankings a big one.

Hi Volitzer

My album cover would have me being attacked by a creature with tentacles on the front.

The back cover would have me being attacked by a snake.

I would be naked in both photos and a priest would be standing nearby lecturing me, Bible in hand.

The album would be called, "You're damned if you do and damned if you don't."

Anymore questions?  :)

NEVERMORE

Edgar Allan Poe
The Raven
[First published in 1845]

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more,'

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
`Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!'
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
`Surely,' said I, `surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!'

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door -
Bird or beast above the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as `Nevermore.'

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered - not a feather then he fluttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before -
On the morrow will he leave me, as my hopes have flown before.'
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
`Doubtless,' said I, `what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore -
Till the dirges of his hope that melancholy burden bore
Of "Never-nevermore."'

But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird and bust and door;
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore -
What this grim, ungainly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking `Nevermore.'

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom's core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
`Wretch,' I cried, `thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil! -
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted -
On this home by horror haunted - tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there balm in Gilead? - tell me - tell me, I implore!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us - by that God we both adore -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels named Lenore?'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

`Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!' I shrieked upstarting -
`Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken! - quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

No, if I was all about showing off body parts that I'd just finished shaving, my pants would be off.  :)

With your figure I thought a little more leg would've been cool, be it a skirt or shorts.  :)

But go with what you're comfortable with.

Well, gee, sweetie, here is one with a little more leg:

personally,  I liked the one with the Boa.

Somehow Pag,  that cutsy little pose doesn't seem to match your online

personality.  Maybe something more like the bad girl Susan Lucci, what's her name Erica?  from that tv series

where she was nominated about 20 times for an academy award and never won.  Maybe you could get

together with Unk and he could draw a characature with flames coming out of your mouth and some black leather and whips.

Thank you, well I am not actively searching for an art job right now, I got a side job lined up that should give me steady work for a month anyways, building a fence.

Unknown,

I tried looking on the internet for online fantasy markets for you to sell your art, too, but found zilch online. There is a book called, "the Artist's Market Guide," which has a lot of that info. Building fences sounds interesting, too, but you should get paid for what you are best at.

Hi Gwen

Thank you so much for looking though the web for me... There are some places where you can sell art work. But the thing is you have to have something printed up to sell, and printing isn't exactly cheap. I imagine that I will get my act together someday...

Pegan, Have ever seen yourself doing an all white back-ground, wearing all white while your facial expression is with a dark, yet innocent smirk or smile?

I only ask because I could see it in my head as a really cool pic.
Amy Lee did a video once that had these elements and it was a beautiful shot.
Food for thought...

Angel like, but less lustful.
More serious in her genius and unwilling to share her heart with mere mortals...

Yet thoughts of a self made mortal man linger in her hidden agenda style of expression.

Deep! Really Deep. Hmmmm

I saw the destruction of Babylon, Sodom, and Gamora because they were perverted.
To the victor goesth the spoils, and America is now that nation.

Sex appeal and greed.

I wish I still had the original pencil drawing... even the original inking. All I have left is this computer file which was scanned poorly. But I messed up the inking of the bear; I think it needs more solid shading and I shouldn't have used the dotting technique. All of this as a way of explaining all those damn jagged lines... lol

Yeah, I would have been around earlier, but I was kidnapped by about a dozen midgets who were hoping to have some orgies.  Lord of the Rings, this was definitely not! The one ring does tend to rule them all, but that's with any guys, not just dwarves.

So what were your drunken comments about?  I've noticed that a lot of people get drunk and start writing here, that's the way it seems, anyway!

Sonnet To Science

Science! true daughter of old time thou art!
Who alterest all things with thy peering eyes.
Why preyest thou thus upon the poet's heart,
Vulture, whose wings are dull realities?
How should he love thee? or how deem thee wise,
Who wouldst not leave him in his wandering,
To seek for treasured jewels in the skies,
Albeit he soared with an undaunted wing?
Hast though not dragged Dianna from her car?
And driven the Hamadryad from the wood
To seek shelter in some happier star?
Hast thou not torn the naid from her flood,
The Elfin from the grass, and from me
The summer dream beneath the tamarind tree?

The Turning of Warren Pierson
Illustration inspired by the short story I am writing, "The Horror of Crooling Grange."

Lorelei

Lorelei, Lorelei, my Lorelei
For you I lament, for you that I cry

On an ill-fated wind is an evil that rides
Waxing, and waning with withering tides
A boon to the locusts, a feast for the flies

Her heart chilled in that somber night’s breeze
Soft whispers from death, brought on her disease
Haunted by shadows with unnatural pleas

Darkness grew around her, so twisted and foul
The rats they would gather, the wolves they would howl
It frightened to flight the hoary night owl

Lorelei, Lorelei, my Lorelei
For you I lament, for you that I cry

I followed her footsteps down that darkened hall
To infernal depths my supernal angel would fall
But I loved her; I loved her, in spite of it all

Her sweet voice intoned, the spell that she sung
As her lips drank away the blood of the young
Corrupting and killing her soul was undone

Never to walk again in Sol’s holy light
She abides now within the Plutonian night
The breath of the plague; the bringer of blight

Lorelei, Lorelei, my Lorelei
For you I lament, for you that I cry

If anyone has some tribal art for potential tattoo designs, I would love to look at them.

My avatar image that I am using right now is actually the origional design for the Yin-Yang tiger and dragon I have in the center of my back. My design is slightly more round looking with the dragon up-side down. The back ground yin and yang is is blue and red. The tiger and dragon is in black and white.

For my left Arm, I have a tribal likeness of Jesus's face with a crown of thorns and a trony tribal band that goes all the way around. Just above it, I have a celtic cross.
My right Arm, I have a tribal sun, with the sign of capricorn in the middle. Meaning the sun in Capri.

I can't find even a singal likeness of the tattoo of Jesus like mine anywhere on the net.
This one is the origional likeness of the one I just bought my wife. She had it put on the back of her left shoulder as a first tattoo.
 (http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A9iby4XuXtxGzYQArl2jzbkF/SIG=133h95igs/EXP=1188933742/**http%3A//www.rankmytattoos.com/f/thumbnails/celtic-knot-tattoo-11276732051249.jpg)

The one she has, is more positive, negitive style and slightly better done. Very decreative and expressive of her beliefs. My wife likes the celtic art, and because wiccans use alot of this style, it all kind of fits.

An interesting mix of styles and mediums.  Were you influenced by any of the classical artists, or simply comic book artists?

Title: Re: Art for Art's sake not, for Pete's Sake
Post by: unknown on December 28, 2007, 10:27:05 am
Hi Prentiss

Well, I wasn't exposed to a lot of classical art when I was growing up. But all the art that I did see was undoubtedly influenced by classical art. So I guess the answer is yes. I am not big on modern abstract art... although surrealism  can be cool. I like the early impressionist painters like Monet, Lasotte. I think Goghan is overrated. I have great respect for the rennaisance masters, like Da Vinci and Michaelanglo. I don't know a lot about the Classical period of art although I think Greek and Roman sculptures is, depending upon the period absolutely fabulous. I like the Hudson school here in the americas and the dutch masters for there lighting and realism. I think some of the greatest artists are relatively unknown like Durer and Mucha.

Thanks for asking

Dürer is quite famous but Mucha's claim to fame as an Art Nouveau commercial artist puts him in a "lower" echelon according to the fine art elitist snobs!  Comic and fantasy artists like Mike Kaluta and Quinton Hoover were influenced heavily by Mucha, and Adam Hughes did some nice covers in his style for Alan Moore's "Voodoo" mini-series.

Exactly right, Uknown; if we want to trace the family tree of influences back we go to paleolithic chalk drawings in caves.

Hi Horus

I absolutely agree that Mucha's infleunce on the art world was tremendous. I don't understand that... about snobbing commercial art. The way I see it, even the great Michaelanglo was a commercial artist, after all he was supposed to get paid for painting the ceiling of the Cisteen Chapel. Although, if memory serves the payments were always late and never in full. Thats what the art world is still like... lol.

How about some new 'stuff', Unk, romantic Mucha style.....

Flowers are some of my favorite things.

Hi Bianca

I have been planning on bring my drafting table downstairs were I can use it, it makes it so much easier to draw... I will see if I can do something with a Mucha flavor, I just love scroll work, etc.

I don't know when I will be able to get it done though... I have been pretty busy lately.

I think some of the greatest artists are relatively unknown like Durer and Mucha.

Welcome back Horus.

Welcome back Horus.

Thankyou!

Great sketch, unknown!  Looks like the fine basis for an ink and watercolor rendering.  But I'm not that skinny!  Can't you put some meat on those bones? ;-)

Thanks Horus

Does it look like you? I think I am going to do another one, it's not exactly what I wanted.

Hi Bianca

Great painting, I love it! It reminds me of a horror/fantasy story I have been meaning to write... The Bearclaw.
