Atlantis as it is presented in the paintings by Dovilio Brero is a marvellous city, a pearl of that extraordinary civilisation that mankind has fabled for millennia. It is a city in which every detail is taken care of.. The architecture unites beauty and harmony with an extreme functionality.

The city of Atlantis was built in concentric circles, isolated one from another by arms of  navigable sea. Access to the different levels was more and more restricted as one proceeded towards the central island: here there were the sites of the most important temples and reserved places. The city was constantly full of music, derived from the architecture. Primarily from the gilded domes, which reacted to the wind and temperature variations, producing sound harmonies. Often present was the theme of the number three, a characteristic of the whole civilisation of Atlantis: lines repeated thrice, groups of three similar buildings, groups of three pyramids.  On each level of the city, the  roads on the surface ran diagonally from shore to shore, but many other pathways intertwined underground.

Atlantis was the capital city of the continent of the same name; as such, it was the showcase of its inhabitants. It was the collective realisation of their culture, their arts and their technological progress. It was a monumental city, created to show representatives of other nations, what the people of Atlantis were capable of doing.

Here is a general representation of Atlantis. It is the classical form of the city, as it is traditionally handed down, articulated as a series of concentric circles emerging from the water; notice how altitude increases as one proceeds towards the centre.

The central part is  the citadel. It had a diameter of about two and half kilometres.

Another view of the sea channels separating one level from the other, looking out from the inside of the city towards the external areas.

This was the entrance to the main harbour and, at the same time, a landing platform for aircraft. Ships would pass under the two figures in the foreground, while flying cars would land on the disks at the top of the huge statues. On the ship down below there is a sort of enormous eye: it was the heart of the propelling system.

On the colossus on the left restoration works are going on. Obviously it is older than the other two statues. The statues had internal lifts and ample lookout windows which opened  correspondingly with the crystal parts visible in this picture.

One of the inside seas of Atlantis, separating one level of the city from the other. To the right, a tower for illumination, with two metallic statues supporting gigantic lamps. In the background, in the sky, three flying cars.

Other stately architecture of the central city. The wings on the head, evident on the statue at the top of the stairway, were a recurrent theme in the art of Atlantis . The city had been conceived to be one in which all the arts could express their maximum complexity. The stairway led to a university dedicated to studies on time phenomena.

Oricalc and gold were the materials used most in the building of domes. We are in the central part of the city; the most outstanding building is an astronomic observatory. Many of the domes appearing in this picture as well as in the others are sonorous cupolas, constantly producing sounds according to the wind.

This was the central part of the city as seen from the outside. Inside the different gilded musical domes were the planetarium and other public buildings. We are in the sacred part of the city, to which access was restricted.

The planetarium, in the central citadel. It was like walking among the planets thanks to three-dimensional images created by an interferometric laser system. With this device it was possible to get overviews as well as extremely detailed zoom-ins of every celestial body.

Under the central city were immense hollows, supported by columns like this one. In the lower part of the picture, notice the tauromachy on the column next to the portal, and the dimensions of the man and the bull in comparison with those of the column.

On this enormous emerald,  transparently engraved,  the main codes of the city were written, translated into different languages and idioms. The Emerald Tables were guarded in an underground room, in the most restricted zone of Atlantis.

Under these gigantic metal portals, constantly watched over by a guardian, was the entrance to the alchemy room and to the hall for contacting the insect world. These portals, like the domes, had  a musical effect. In all Atlantean sculptures, as well as in these gates, metals like gold, silver and oricalc were widely used.

In this valley, distant from the city, the kings of Atlantis were buried. It was a very deep valley, in which there were funeral monuments dating back to the dawn of Atlantis, together with newer and more recent tombs. These monuments left an historical record, not only political but also artistic. The peak on the background also appears in picture 3: the valley was beyond the top of that mountain.
